Thank you to all you wise women

I went to see my consultant on Monday, only a 5 month wait!!! I am going to have a full hysterectomy on Monday November 28th. That could change knowing the NHS!!! I have done so much research, and reading, and am
absolutely sure this is the right road for me. I have to say a huge thank you to all of you for your stories, and thoughts, on this difficult issue. I feel like I will be getting my life back. I have re-read the thread I started back in May and am more convinced that this is the way to go. He actually made a comment about how I had obviously done my research before coming to see him. I told him I had an amazing bunch of wise friends.
My whole family life is being destroyed by this. We can't plan to go anywhere, have weekends away, and I never get to go swimming any more!!! I have read books that you recommended, spent tons of time on hyster-sisters looking around, have spent numerous hours talking to friends that have had it, and people that are totally anti it, and I have decided that I am making the right decision. So once again a huge thank you to you all, especially Doctor Joanne, for being such a wonderful support system through it all.

Re: Thank you to all you wise women

You've thought carefully about it, researched it and took all the necessary steps to get informed. If your condition caused so much upset for you and the family, I'm sure that in the end, you will be glad that you did go for it!

That's what friends are for...

It's natural to fear something that can be life changing. Being so well prepared will surely help to ease your mind and be a huge plus during recovery. Wish you all the best! Take care.

Re: Thank you to all you wise women

Thank you. I know I have made the right decision, and I suppose something I have to thank my experience of paxhell for is taking responsibility for my own health. No more just taking the "experts" word for it. I have become the expert in looking after myself, and my family. I have started back on a healthier eating kick, and am going to try and fit in some more exercise, just to be more prepared. I am just so grateful that there is an end in sight. I don't expect it to be plain sailing afterwards, I am sure there will be some hiccups along the way, especially with regard to HRT. But I know what I want to do, and he has agreed. No HRT for the 1st 6 months to see how I go, then review it after that. One thing I have learned is that you have to keep an open mind, so we will see.
Once again a big thank you.
Lots of love

Re: Thank you to all you wise women

Sarah, I'm glad to know that you did all the research before making you decision.

Hopefully the doctor will be able to leave you an ovary once he gets inside and sees what's what.

I don't regret my hysterectomy at all. Its given me freedom

I am seeing changes in my skin though, its starting to lose its elacticity, getting little wrinkles in my arms that shouldn't be there. So I'm going to see a gynocologist to see what he/she can do.

It took about a year for the hormones to settle down, I do have one ovary. I'd only get hot flashes on the right side of my face. It would burn and feel hot to the touch.

Good luck to you!

Re: Thank you to all you wise women

Thanks Julie. He seems to think that as so much damage was done to the hormones being sterilised, yes validation at last, that I shouldn't have too many problems having the ovaries removed. Of course, he could change his mind when he gets in there as you said. As for the wrinkles love, I don't know if there is any more room on my face for any more!!! I am going to tape a piece of paper to my stomach when I go down for the op asking if he can do a tummy tuck while he's down there!!!! You never know unless you ask!!!!

Re: Thank you to all you wise women

lmap ye wish they had tucked my tummy up a bit tighter lol but hey think a lot of things come with age too ,i know many of my bits have headed off south.I agree sarah our ovaries were damaged during the sterilisation i was left with one but it wasnt working properly anyway so wish they had took both as whats the point of keeping a fastly shutting down one.I now also ,womens intuition ,think i have cysts on my remai8ning one but docs just look at me gone out if i mention it.The main reasons for thinking it is the facial hair and skin tags that have only appeared the last couple of years ,but hey one day they may see more to me than a hypochondriac lmao, funny they can call you that knowing full well that its all down to their covering up what they have done to us over the years.Basically i just wish i had both taken as if i do have probs with the other one its surgery again.
