magnesium makes my stomach go crazy! any advice????

hi everyone,

so i just started taking magnesium yesterday (i tried it during early withdrawal but it made me have the runs.....or i was having them anyway and it didnt help)....

so i started taking it yesterday and it seemed to really help with the anxiety...but then this morning my stomach was not doing so great and i took some today and now my stomach is feel pretty blech (not to get gross...but im really gassy and have to keep going to the bathroom)......and whenever my stomach is upset my body reads this as anxiety...so now im anxious all over again!

now...i cannot be SURE this is the magnesium...but i have a feeling it is. im taking magnesium citrate (by solgar)....and ive tried chelated magnesium (also by solgar)...is there ANOTHER kind that might be easier for me to digest? one that wont give me (im sorry i have to go here but i dont know what else to call it) "loose stool" ?

Fancy, I take Solgar mag citrate. It's a good choice. The problem is more likely the amount you are taking rather than the brand or formula. How much did you take?

Four hundred mgs is the average dose, but it's too much for some people, and others can tolerate higher levels. I take 800 myself without loose stools.

fancy,
think of it this way.. you are introducing a supplement to your body. your body has not received magnesium this way before.. so it gets kinda shocked ya know.. just start out at a low dose and work your way up.. so your body isn't going.. "huh? wha? what IS this stuff?"
it will get better.

yeah...start slowly with everything. start with 200. or if you want to try 400.
....take it in 2 doses. one morning...one evening.
let the body regulate gently to everything.

Maybe your body is not able to absorb the Mg for whatever reason. Could there be other nutrient deficiencies? Good idea to take less mg several times a day. Drink lots of water with it.
