Re: GlaxoSmithKline Reaches Paxil Settlement

Members of the class, including all U.S. residents who bought Paxil and Paxil CR, a controlled-release version of the drug, for their children each could get full refunds if they have records of their purchases. Anyone without such documentation can get $15 returned to them.

Alrighty then!!!!! You can get a whole $15.00 if you don't have the receipts! This settlement sucks egg!! Its the lawyers who are getting all the friggin money! That's what happened in the tobacco litigation and that's what happened in the breast implant litigation. The actual people INJURED didn't get squat. Da** lawyers!!!!!!! And to think I WORK for lawyers............grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

It does suck and you're right....a whole $15 dollars. Don't spend it all in one place! That'll buy you some cheap flowers to put on the grave of your loved one who comitted suicide while on this crap.

Most of the suicides were not settle in a class action. $15.00??? that's an insult. The premise of this suit was to recover the COST of the DRUG??? That's insane.

Re: GlaxoSmithKline Reaches Paxil Settlement

I am certain there is a gag order. My silence is worth a hell of a lot more than $15!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe that ANYONE would agree to just a refund of their money. I am a damned sight more than an unsatisified customer!

That was the point I was making...it's just insulting, flat out a slap in the face.

This is why it's SO important to know what is the goal of any class action suit that you sign on for!!

Re: GlaxoSmithKline Reaches Paxil Settlement

Let's hope that Judge Mendelsohn will rule in March of 2007 that the settlement is UNFAIR!!

GSK - Paxil: a $63.8 million class action settlement
GlaxoSmithKline PLC has agreed to pay $63.8 million to settle a lawsuit's claims that it promoted its antidepressant drug Paxil for use by children and adolescents while withholding negative information about the medication's safety and effectiveness.

As part of the settlement, GlaxoSmithKline denies the lawsuit's claims, including that consumers paid too much for the drugs, but the world's second-largest pharmaceutical company wants to resolve the matter to avoid further litigation costs.

Actual payments to consumers will depend on the amount of claims. If there is not enough money to pay all the claims, consumers will get only a portion of the amount they otherwise could have gotten.

To pay out $63.8 million is peanuts for the crime committed of witholding negative information about Paxil!!

Re: GlaxoSmithKline Reaches Paxil Settlement

I wonder what is meant by "children"? I was under 18 when I started Paxil (16 or 17 I think), I wonder if that counts? Not that I would participate in this laughable settlement...
