Caffeine

Well I know coffee is killer, black tea is not so bad. And Green tea even has it. Thing is If i Drink it I feel pretty good, and then my chest (later on in the day) gets tingly and feel odd. liek a pulled muscle? I am not saying its 100% direct tot eh tea but I am not sure whats going on? My doc says I am hyper? Could I be so hyper that even the least little bit of caffeine is hard on me?

Re: Caffeine

Mystere..remember that if you were prescribed Paxil it is because something was going on with your hormonal balance. I disagree of course about the theory of serotonin or low serotonin being responsible for either anxiety attacks or depression.

I for myself as a rule that stayed clear of all caffeinated products, tea, coffee, chocolate, alcohol, sugar and cheese. All of these substances affect not only the brain chemistry but the adrenal glands, and I believe the negative effect from environmental stress and emotional stress to chemical stress will lead to some sort of adverse reaction to caffeinated products.

There is in our kitchen a full half pound of organic Darjeeling tea of the highest quality, it is my favorite beverage but I cannot go near it. I might be able to get away with one or 2 cups, but I would pay dearly for this foolishness. Maybe in a couple of years I will have recovered enough to be able to moderately drink tea again. For now if I want to enjoy good health is best to stay clear of these products.

Regards, Johnny

Re: Caffeine

I have had to eliminate caffeine completely and feel wretched if I take even the smallest amount.

Re: Caffeine

I am new here and still taking Paxil but caffiene kills me when it comes to panic attacks. Even one large coffee can cause me to have a panic attack either within an hour or so, or later in the day. Good luck to you!

Re: Caffeine

I drink it even though a lot of people say here not to (I tend to do a LOT of things that people here tell me not to do ). At first, I think it was bad because whenever I'd go to a bar I'd have like 3 glasses of pepsi. But the bars were also really smoky. I always felt really bad when i came home afterwards and I wasn't sure which one it is. But within the last two weeks, I just drink about a can a day of pepsi and nothing happens! I'm 9 weeks off. I love my pepsi, can't live with out it!

Re: Caffeine

Caffeine has been a no-no for me. I love Coke, but thank God for the caffeine free variant!.

I was addicted to coffee, but for sure had to go. I still sneak a chocolate bar
now and again, but very sparingly. Tea is not too bad for me, if I dont overdo it.

Re: Caffeine

I drink 1-2 cups of coffee in the am. I know I shouldn't but it is the only vice I have left. I can't drink it in the afternoon, I get an upset stomach and very nervous. Everytime I try to give it up, I go back on it. Just not ready to let it go I guess. I am sure it doesn't help my anxiety levels though.

There is a way to decaffeinate tea. Boil your water & pour a 1/3 cup into your tea cup, soak your tea bag/basket for 20 seconds. then dump out the tea. Now pour in the rest of your water & steep your tea as normal.

As far as you being hyper - since you went off cold turkey - you might just be having w/d fx. tingling is one, muscle tightness is one, mania is also one, along w/akathesia where you can't sit still & are fidgety.
If you are having these or other weird symptoms you should consider going back on your meds & tapering at 5-10% every 2-3weeks.
I don't think anyone here would recommend going cold turkey for anyone.

Peace!

Re: Caffeine

Thanks for the post friends. I have cut tea right out completely. It feels more like muscle spasms or something? I always wonder if I am gonna have a heart attack

If I take 1-2 Advil's It goes away and comes and goes as it please when it wants?

The thing about being withdraw from Paxil i I was only on it for a month? Is that long enough to make me feel this way? I haven't touched it in about 2 months. I tell you what tho if it doe this to me after a month on it OMFG I would be so scared on it for a year. Jesus

Re: Caffeine

yep a month is long enough to change your brain chemistry. Now you know why so many ppl on here that have been on it for years have protracted w/d years after being off of it.

You went off cold turkey which totally explains your w/d symptoms.
Going back on, & tapering slowly will be better for your brain & body.

Caffeine is not the only culprit here. Though it is good that you are cutting it out of your diet.

Well its seems that Paxil had the miraculous ability to ruin ones liver and pancreas very quickly....one month is enough to initiate some screw up....I know that is a question often discussed. Dr Ann Tracy would use the example of the woman from Utah that was on Effexor for 4 weeks..she became a raging alcoholic and then shot and killed her husband...before the drugs..she was considered to be a model citizen..so it only took 4 weeks..so that gives you an idea just HOW powerful these drugs are and how quickly they can screw someone up.

If you want to hear the interview I can post the link.

Regards, Johnny
