I'm terrified

I have read thru many posts. I have tried both ways to get off Paxil, I'm going to do it this time. I am terrified of going thru these withdrawals for months. I'm terrified for my children and if I have mood swings to scare them. They are so sweet. And my husband never wanted me to go on this in the first place. now he has to deal with me going off it. I never imagined I'd be in this place. I was told it wasn't addictive. oh soo wrong. I am mad and scared all at once I look forward to your support in the future. I was up to 40mg now at 20mg every....2-3 days. I've just been trying to go as long as I can till it starts and take a dose. I don't know what I should go to next. I have been down to 5mg and couldn't do it.

TIA

Have you thought about trying a different tactic - like instead of taking your dose every two or three days. Just do a different weaning. Take the dose your on now, and then decrease after that by 5mgs or 2.5mgs. But give yourself maybe a month on each decreased dose. It might help the withdrawals as not being quite so bad. I know this stuff is really scary when you're going through this. I was the same way a couple of weeks ago. I was really giving up hope of ever getting off this junk, until I found this website. The people here are really thoughtful and caring. Ask questions, talk, whatever. They will help you to the best of their ability. It also helps, I think, to know that you're not alone. You might also want to read some of the discussions on this site. It's very helpful. Just remember to go slow, slow, slow on decreasing the paxil. Good luck to you, have faith, and hang in there.

Too hard on yourself

Scaryelf, you're being TOO HARD on your body. THERE IS A WAY to get off Paxil without getting the zaps so bad you can't think, or the crying, nightmares and sweating every night. After trying cold turkey last May and not being able to handle the symptoms, I read a whole bunch of success stories and started the taper method. I even got my hands on some of that LIQUID Paxil so I could go down a few milligrams at a time. DROP A FEW mg every week or two until you're down to zero and it won't be such a rough ride. I promise! The zaps will be MUCH less frequent and you'll only have the flu symptoms and stressed immune system to contend with. GIVE YOURSELF AT LEAST TEN WEEKS, drink a lot of water, take vitamins every day, and try 5-HTP for anxiety. It's an imino acid you can get at any health food store and it really helps. GOOD LUCK! I'm two weeks Paxil free after seven years of addiction, and it feels great!
