To supplement or not to supplement?
I have now been off the paxil for a week and a half. I was prescribed the med for generalized anxiety. I have been taking ginger and liquid B vitamin to help with side effects.
I have been feeling very down on myself lately (it was not like this before the med). I also seem to have a much shorter fuse. I am trying to deal with this. My boyfriend has been a great support. But I wonder if I should add some other supplement to help with these things. What do you guys think? My Doctor does not seem to be much of a help with this. |

Hi Marie
It sounds like you're doing really well so far- it's great that your partner is so supportive. The "short fuse" does get longer, believe me!! You could try Avina Sativa herbal remedy for anxiety, or some kind of passiflora complex. Increasing the amount of Omega 3 in your diet would be a good idea- from fish or seeds like linseed. You can get these in supplement form from your healthfood shop. I have been following a basically vegan diet but eating fish as well ever since I came of paxil nearly a month ago to cleanse the liver, and it has been working really well, with the added benefit of clearing my skin up and losing some of the weight I gained whilst taking paxil! I also recommend using a calcium/magnesium supplement, and I use aconite homeopathic remedy when I get panic attacks, which works straight away. I don't think I would still have my job without it! I hope some of this is useful to you "hugs", Tris |

Omega-3 fatty acids
I just wanted to add that I have found a fantastic source of the Omega-3 fatty acids. It is a breakfast cereal called "Uncle Sam" cereal. And I find it very delicious and satisfying. It boasts 2000 mg. of the Omegas per one cup serving! I believe it comes from the flaxseed in it. And it is naturally high in fiber- 10 grams per cup!
It only comes in a 10 oz. box, a little smaller than the large, commercial brand cereals. And it is made by the U.S. Mills Co. out of Needham, Ma, in case any of you have trouble locating it. It's in a red, white, and blue box! =) Another side note: If your store does not carry it, they may offer to special order it for you. Check with the Customer Service Dept. |
