paxil cr

CR is controlled release. The timed release is supposed to alleviate some of the side effects by keeping a more even level of drug in your system. It worked for me- my side effects were way milder on it than regular Paxil (although I still had some- sexual, emotion-dulling)

Thanks Beth, I think I will mention it to my dr if I feel brave enough. I know I cant reduce anymore at the moment with moving to a new home on my own. I really need to settle down a bit first. But the paxil cr sounds like a better way to go thanks xx

Paxil CR

I just joined on in late August. So am busy reading all the informative, friendly messages and replies. Was on Paxil, 20 mg for about one year, no problem going off it last year. Now, my doctor has prescribed this Paxil CR--tried two times to go off it. Horrible zaps. Also take synthroid for hypothyroidism--have read literature from Mayo Clinic that Paxil lowers BMR so would very much like to get rid of the Paxil. Feel like a prisoner--want to be free of it. The synthroid has helped so much with depression. Any thoughts, opinions would be greatly apreciated. Molly

side effects vary with the person. it shows how medieval our medical system is when it takes 10 years to find the right drug.

10 years?

10 years? Try a hundred and we're not even there yet.

Cocaine was one of the first antidepressants. It used to be legal, and considered a medical feel-good tonic. Heck, Coca-Cola used to promote their cocaine laced drink as a health drink because of it!

Then medicine followed up with "speed" type drugs and then in the 50s-60s, oppressed women buried their lack of freedom with valliums and then we all got on to tricyclics, MAOs and more, and then SSRIs (which are anything but selective)...and now Control release SSRIs to force a weaning withdrawal method that we are all familar with already aren't we?

The past medicine of a future culture is always deemed barbaric. 50 years from now we'll be looking back at our wonder drugs like Paxil and think, "what the !@#$ were we thinking! The problem was so simple to solve! But we were too busy playing with money!"

Doctors used to laugh at other doctors who thought it necessary to wash their hands pre-1900.
