Depersonalization with back pain

I'm posting this more for observation reasons really, but I've noticed that when I get depersonalization in withdrawal it's usually accompanied by back pain.
The pain gets worse at certain times like when I do the washing up - my back tenses up really tight.
Anyone else noticed this? Looking back into my past when I came off other SSRI's I seem to recall getting a lot of back pain afterwards.

The depersonalization itself is truly horrible, like seeing the world in 2D. It's caused me to do some really stupid things.

Re: Depersonalization with back pain

I didn't connect the two things, but it could well have been the case for me too. I did have the most awful back pain in a sort of horseshoe shape on my back - it was so bad that my mother could see the shape where my skin puckered where the muscles were pulling.

I read later that serotonin is responsible for smooth muscle contractions and that when there is too much serotonin, or it is released in an abnormal way (as it would be in withdrawal) it causes the muscles to over-contract, causing pain.

I had it during my entire withdrawal, and thought it would never go away, but it is now gone COMPLETELY. So has that awful feeling of depersonalisaton.

I know you will heal too.

Thanks Tigerlily, it's reassuring to know.

Wow, looking at your signature I'm amazed at all the meds you have managed to get off. Good on you!

Re: Depersonalization with back pain

Yeah, those bastards nearly killed me...

The only thing I take now is the contraceptive pill, and I'm looking for an alternative to that too. I avoid doctors like the plague. I would say I am 99% recovered. I still struggle with the weight I gained after weaning off everything, and I find it hard to regulate my temperature, but other than that I am pretty good.

I was so worried that I would continue to feel detached from my two beloved dogs, but that feeling is completely gone now. I also had terrible agoraphobia during and after weaning, and just felt too ill and poisoned to go anywhere. That has all disappeared.

I think one of the worst things about the whole experience is that you feel so trapped and as if it will never change, but it eventually does.

All the best to you

Agreed! The strange thing is I've been through withdrawal before, so I "know" it gets better, logically, but when you're in the thick of it you don't believe it.

Thanks again.

Hey, Pboy! It's actually quite possible. When the wave worsens, we worsen both physically and mentally. Both symptoms are nasty, but they will get better!

Re: Depersonalization with back pain

Yep. I've also had really bad sleep and terrible memory to add to the list, so all these things seem to be interconnected.

How are you doing Luc?

Not there yet, but the progress has been significant. Hang in there, Pboy! The 100% healing is just a matter of time.
