If the Paxil works for you that's great. Unfortunately at 3 days you're not going to know if it really works for you or not. My advice would be to ask the doctor for another medication solution if that's the road you wish to persue. While you are on that medication, take time to really work things out. get to the sorce of your problems and deal with them. This would probably the easier answer for the short run.
You're other option of course would be to get off the medication now and get some help with a theripist. In the long run, you'd probably be happier with this solution because it doesn't involve withdrawal later on. It would however be much more difficult for you deal with in the short run. hope this helps. Andi |

Hi there
Thats a very hard question to answer really i does depend on u . I suppose you should try all options than think about meds// I must admit since taking paxil i have really got my **** together gain a little weight nothing drastic but enough to concern me. I am weaning off and before so i worked on issues and realised that i may be able to deal with things free of paxil.. Everyone is different with different issues!!! please research and choose ur optons give everything a go and allow time for it to kick in meds take a good month to start working and 6 months before u really notice changes. You have to do what u feel is right , i decided to start meds when i used most other options, now i am choosing to be free of the meds and still have a way to go. i wish you all the best in solving this issue m people here r wonderfull and supportive thinking of u |

Based on my son's experience, I would turn back now. It worked for him for awhile before it caused its own problems. Then getting off of it has been hell. He's been out of school for 20 days this year. (10 being sick on Paxil, 10 from withdrawal)

Id say with a very biased opinion to quit now before your body gets used to it. The withdrawals (for me personally) were living hell...its just not worth it.

Hi Big_D,
Please think twice again before really getting on the paxil-train! Of course I don't know what you've done uptill now to tackle your problems concerning panic/anxiety but there might be many other ways to do so, instead of covering it under a blanket of 'anti-depressants'. I know what it is from my own experience to be overtaken by panic; it's horrible, it feels like something from the outside attacks you ìnside. I guess that feeling leads to the strange figure of speech of "having a panic disorder" ( like having a broken leg;you even use capitals for it!) Wouldn't it be more constructive to use these disturbing feelings as an indication of imbalance, of too much stress on your system (whatever the causes may be) resulting in these mysterious 'attacks'?! Unless you're really crippled by them (can't work, can't leave your house) I would really look for possible other solutions (like finding a good therapist). Finally, it has helped me a great deal in the past, to deliberately confront places and situations in which I might panic, to find out that, however frightening, I did not faint/get mad/die on the spot. Please reconsider your options, talk to others, talk to your doctor and take paxil only when alternatives appear to be of no use. Take care, Loudon |

Paxil cures nothing, it only masks your problems. I dont think you understand what you are getting yourself into by taking this poison. The withdrawals (if they hit you like they did me) are NO trade off. There were many times during the first few weeks off paxil where I would have GLADLY died....Ive never been suicidal or overly depressed in my life, but suicide crossed my mind several times through the withdrawals. Go on with the paxil if you think its best, but chances are you'll be kicking yourself later.

SLCPax, thank you for your concern.I rethought my situation and came to the conclusion that Paxil is not the right choice.4 days into it and everything around me feels surreal.I know it doesn't take until 4 weeks to kick in but i may be sensitive or having a reaction to the drug.......Bottom line,I don't like it! So i'm going to try and work things out with my therapist and by myself. It's just that i get frustrated sometimes that i just feel like giving in to medication to take my problems away.I'm 21 and i know i have alot to live for,i just don't want to waste away these early years of my life worrying about something that makes NO SENSE!!I also realize how hard alot of people here are struggling with their problems and even tougher ones than my own.I pray that our suffering may be over soon.................Thank you all once again

Big_D has done something very impressive that so many miss: he listened to his experience and exercised a preference based on reverse time. Faith.
That's genious and what I encourage people to do. Big_D decided how we wanted to remember having dealt with this anxiety problem. He decided by preference HOW he wanted to heal the anxiety given what he was feeling, who he wants to be/become and so on. He admitted to himself that he COULD change his life without a pill, and that choice ALONE, if never abandoned (loss of faith in self), gives him all that he needs to realize it. Big_D, I know that surreal feeling very well. It doesn't last. Weeks to months after that, your emotions go haywire, and a *NEW* anxiety is created that you have no control over, because the Paxil is causing it. Original anxieties are always more easy to deal with, once we know we can, and then figure out techniques.
