My scale is broke!

So i am about to start weaning myself off paxil and i got a scale i ordered from amazon the gemini and it arrived broken! it says "outz" and i dont have enough money to send it back right now im so frustrated it really sucks, i cant get it to callibrate or anything i tried new batteries and all that, it just says "outz" and shuts off oh well wish me luck i wanna get a new one that works!

Wow, that sucks. Was there anything on the scale when it said that? They should replace it for free, but yeah you probably have to pay return shipping although it should be under 10 bucks. I found the manual for the scale online and it says that error code means: "Zero range has shifted. Perform calibration
adjustment. If the problem persists, the load cell may be permanently damaged due to overloading." Here is a link to the manual online:

i think its broke cause of the pressure thing i will try it again tomorrow but it wasnt working right when i first got it i couldnt get it to stay at zero and i put the pill on it and it just kept doing the same thing then it started doing the outz thing and i guess i dont mind waiting or even being sent a broken one but its the fact that i have to pay shipping which i cant afford right now as sad as that is lol

Even though you bought it on Amazon try contacting American Weigh Scales directly. There is a 10 year warranty but if you think it was damaged in the shipping they can tell you the best way to proceed. Worth a shot. Here's a link:

Also, from reading Amazon it seems they have a 30 day return policy on electronics, but I'm not sure if scales falls under that category. You might want to contact Amazon as well to see how many days are in their return policy. If you wait to long you might not be able to exchange it or get a refund.

Have you tried contacting Amazon customer service?

I've found them very helpful recently, and when an item was damaged, they credited me for the shipping. Depending on how it was shipped and from where, they may be able to have it picked up at no charge (not possible in all situations, but see what they can do).

Click on where it says "Help" on the upper right on their site, then click on "Contact us." There are options for phone call, online chat, or sending email.

Hi! ok so i did just that ( contacted customer service by phone) i had to do that because after emailing them the first time after recieving a broken scale they very efficiently sent me another one and informed that we had to send the other one back so we dont get charged for two, so today i was super excited and impressed at how quickly i got my second replacement scale, so i go to open up the box and theres nothing inside accept the tiny plate that sits on top of the scale to hold the item, i was shocked and my boyfriend was being pissy cause he paid for it lol so i had to call them , they apologized and told me to just send the other two (well the one scale and the empty box) with my two invoices back to them and they were gonna send me overnight, a new scale, so supposedly tomorrow i will be getting another one lol. im hoping theres one inside of the box and also hoping that it works :P i have been so stressed out with going through a poop out and all the other stuff thast been happening and iw as trying to stay positive about starting my taper and after all this im feeling like is it the right time for me to do this but i know thats probably stupid to think that cause i know it is because its not doing anything anymore for me but this all was a bit discouraging and i was supprised cause i would expect that from ebay not amazon but i am still excited to get my scale tomorrow, i will be at work but they asked when my boyfriend would be home since i will be gone so they can call and make sure we got a working scale and that all is well, the only thing im actually upset about is having to pay shipping for two items cause i dont even have the money right now to buy the conditioner and other things i want but this has to be done and i know things will pick up sorry im whining lol things could be LOTS worse anyways thank you for listening <3 will update tomorrow!

Did they specifically say you have to pay the shipping?

I would think that if it were defective they would waive the return shipping cost. You're supposed to print out a prepaid label from their website to return an item. If you're returning an item because you no longer want it or something, they deduct the shipping cost from the refund. But since they're sending you a replacement because it was defective, I suggest you call them again and tell them that the cost of returning it would be a hardship for you and that you hope the shipping cost will be waived since it's being replaced because it was defective.

Be sure and note the date and time and name of person you spoke to if they waive the return shipping, in case there are any more slipups.

(Incredible that they sent you the little plate and not the scale when it was the scale that was defective! But it probably was shipped by the manufacturer or a seller they contract with. Given that that happened, maybe you should wait til you receive the replacement before calling about the return of the defective one (and I guess the little plate!), and make sure the new one is OK. Then call them promptly and hopefully they'll say you won't be charged for the return shipping. That may have been their intention all along, but I'd suggest verifying it.

There's a video on their Returns Center in the Help section that shows how to package returns (including what to print out and include to ensure being credited for the returned item, and how to print out shipping label).

i didnt know that about the prepaid label! im going to look into that asap cause im not just being cheap i really cant afford to send it back right now the moneys coming out of our grocery money since we have to and its low as it is since i was just recently out of work for a month were still trying to catch up, so thank you for the info that really helped, i recieved the new scale today and went to try it out it seems to work, it moves tho alot like it starts at 0.000 but doesnt really stay there it varies every second or couple seconds to like 0.004 its on a flat surface in the kitchen away from drafts and i didnt even talk lol just was super carefull near it, then i carefully placed my 20mg paxil pill on there and it stayed at around 0.330 it wavered tho about the same from like 0.324 and up to like 0.336 ( thats an estimate i cant remember the exact but thats really close) so i dunno why it wont stay still and i dunno what the measure ments are supposed to be so i still took a full pill tonight anyways thank you again SO much for the info

also my taper is gonna be about a miligram a month ty <3
