rapid heartbeat? Paxil w/d? or benzo?

I wake up to panic attacks in my sleep every morning - I attribute that to the benzo w/d and reinstatement.. at least that is what I think.

Also, I get a pounding heartbeat - from the time I get up.. 8 am to 930 am - is that from Paxil w/d?? or fro the benzo...I take benzo at 930

thoughts?

Re: rapid heartbeat? Paxil w/d? or benzo?

Paxil withdrawal caused me to have rapid, pounding heartbeats that woke me up. I'm not sure which is causing it for you, but it was Paxil for me. That is a terrible withdrawal symptom. I hope it goes away for you soon.

What is your heart rate when this is happening? "pounding" is classic anxiety.

I woke up with a pounding heart every day in withdrawal ... actually I still do. It was worse in withdrawal, though.

Re: rapid heartbeat? Paxil w/d? or benzo?

This is a difficult question as far as i see it, cause it can be caused by WD. But chances are it's caused by anxiety and fear of anxiety. I have the same now. I worry that i again have those heartbeats at 7 in the morning. And off course i have them with that anticipation.

Re: rapid heartbeat? Paxil w/d? or benzo?

It's the pre-dawn cortisol "dump" that causes anxiety, or anxiety-like, symptoms to spike. This happens to everybody, regardless of meds. It's just that folks who aren't prone to anxiety don't fear it, so they don't notice it or give any weight to it and it doesn't affect them.

That said, meds can definitely make it worse.

Does it go away after you take the benzo? That could be a clue, or it could just mean that your cortisol is going down naturally through the morning as part of your body's natural 24-hour cycle.

texgirl.. it happens mostly in the morn.. but also after i eat anything.. i have been working with a Somatics therapist... and... learning how to release anxiety... so i really don't think it is anxiety related...

it does happen though..
