Update about my situation
Hopefully this makes sense, im not good at making paragraphs.
So i was on paxil for 8 years, had a suicide attempt in november, placed in mental health for a few days...doctors switched me to pristiq...i thought it didnt work so i stopped cold turkey for a month....well I had another suicide attempt on the 25th of january where i took over 200 Tylenol's, 30 pills of pristiq, a package of sudaphed and a pint of hennessy, well i ended up in the hospital for 2 weeks after that stunt and was released from metal health 2 days ago. Now im starting therapy, changing my diet and now exercising. The doctors now have me on 20mg of prozac. I actually have a doctor who wants me to eventually get off pills permanently thru therapy unlike in the past where the docs have said i will be on anti depressants forever. Believe it or not i was told alot of my depression comes from sleep apnea and im torturing myself by not getting enough sleep at night due to enlarged tonsils. I had three doctors agree to this in the past week, of course no one told me this untill now. Ive needed my tonsils out since i was a teenager but of course never have had medical insurance in my life....which i will mention I have a $20,000 hospital bill now from the stay in the hospital. Ok now my questions are has anyone made the switch to prozac with success? is prozac as bad as paxil as far as weight gain and increased appetite? Has anyone ever had a tonsillectomy and felt their depression die down some? I asked the doc these same questions and was told YES to all them. Also anyone had success getting on medicaid? I was hoping to get on this to have my tonsils out... also how do you apply for medicaid? I have no assets and no job. I will keep updating this post as new info comes about. I feel that ive finally hit the point to needing help and i need advice from you strangers. |

Re: Update about my situation
We won't be strangers for long, welcome to PP. Glad your okay. There is a lot of information on switching to prozac here and I am sure someone will start talking about it any time now. I haven't done it so I won't say anything but there are a lot of very knowlageable people here who will.

Re: Update about my situation
I guess.. i can chime in about toncils... i had mine taken out as a young adult... for me it was the best health decision that I made... lol.. sounds so strange... toncils.. right?
It was also a very difficult recovery from the toncils.. but that was many, many years ago.. when health care was not the best. Having toncils out as an adult is different than from having them out as an child. It took about two weeks.. My whole health improved - I had many low grade infections - that just brought my whole body down.. and many ear infections. Plus the impact on my sleep. BUT>>> everyone is different so you must make that decision. On the 20,000 bill<<< try working/pushing.. to meet with a person at the hospital - usually in the finance depart... dealing with public relations.. considering what you went thru.. if you push hard enough they may discount your bill...OR... get you on Medicaid.. retro-active... if you can do that.. then the bill may be covered.. Not sure if that will work.. but it is worth a try. Last edited by paxilpooped : 02-10-2012 at 01:12 PM. Reason: mistake |

Re: Update about my situation
I tried prozac once... it didn't work for me. I ended up going back to paxil.
Medicaid does go retro-active. I think you should apply as soon as you are able. There is probably plenty of info on the web if you google medicaid and whatever state you are in. Considering the severity of your problems, if your not working, then you should also apply for dissability. I am on dissability, medicare, and medicaid. I am no expert, but if there is anything I can help you with, I will.

Re: Update about my situation
Glad you are still here.
It seems health issues that are not taken care of can effect your quality of life and send people into depression. I am glad you are seeing a doctor that wants to get you off the meds - thats the best route, however moving too fast can cause you more harm. I believe for medicaid it goes retro 90 days - so go soon. Life is tough and I am sure with the right help you will get better! Hang in there. |
