Sex drive
Hi all,
Newbie here and just wondering, i've read alot on here about men suffering sexual dysfunction while taking Paxil and after, wondering what women's experiences were regarding sex drive and paxil? Personally i've been on Paxil about 5 years, started it when I was around 17, and I can't ever remember having a sex drive - heck I don't think I even know what real arousal feels like! My sex experiences have been average and (sorry for TMI) i've never had a big 'o'. I used to think perhaps I was asexual, now I wonder and think maybe it is the paxil preventing me from having a normal/healthy sex drive/life. Thoughts/experiences other ladies? I wonder will I EVER have good sex!?!?!!  PS I am FINALLY starting to taper/work towards getting OFF paxil for good, so hoping very much this will help! Was on 80mg :S |

well i have been on paxil for over 10 years and barely had an orgasm while on it. i did come off it for a few months in 2010 and started having orgasms again. so i know it was definitely the drug. my sex drive is low at the moment but i am hoping it will come back soon! before i went on paxil i had no problem having orgasms. i am sure it is the drug stopping you too. 80mg is a mega dose!! you may need to spend time working out what you like/ don't like (trying not to go into detail here ha ha) as it doesn't always happen straight away for everyone but the drug will def be a significant factor. it is a v well known side effect

ps we should have a woman only thread or something as i don't feel entirely comfortable talking about this on a board with men on but then i suppose i've never met any of them!

Also on 80mgs, for over a year. Poisonous, quite literally. Feeling MUCH better now tapered to 20mgs, you can do it stef! Have had sexual dysfunction for years, unsurprisingly (although I'm male, but I understand the effects on women are very similar, just more likely to be written off as 'natural low libido' because of what society would have us believe is 'normal' for either sex.

Hey all!
Thanks for the replies! Yeah 80mg is alot I know, my psychiatrist has said it's a high dose but that she thinks it works well for me. I have made great progress with my OCD (which is why i'm on the stuff) but dealing with the side effects is doing my head in. I'm only 23 so it just worries me that i'm missing out on the sexual peak of my life (and have been since I was 17ish!) while on this stuff. I guess I never really considered it that much, and like chiropteran said thought maybe I just had a low libido (well none at all really), but it seems mighty too coincidental that i'm on paxil while having no sex drive. I know sex isn't everything but to me it's hardley ever been ANYTHING! I'd like to experience what everyone else does and this damn drug makes that impossible. Need to get off, hoping the withdrawal won't be too bad! :S |

I would start slowly withdrawaling now and finding other ways to deal with your issues, not just due to sex drive but also because you may want to have a baby one day and you don't want be on this drug or feel you have to rush your withdrawal to be able to get pregnant. Well, I could give you 1000 other reasons but their all on the label and I think you get the point.

Poly-drugged for 13 years (SSRI's and Lamictal for most of that time). Ended up on 4 meds (Cymbalta, Lamictal, Vyvanse & Lithium) before losing my mind, then realizing the drugs were MAKING me ill. Drug free since 9/27/08 |
