Got any CBT tips for my situation?
Ok, I'm to a point where I want to try and do things I used to even in my state of agitation and need some tips. Let me give an example or two of situations I'm wanting to improve on that I think will be helpful for when I do feel better.
Playing guitar is a huge part of who I was. I do try to play now and then but always get frustrated. If I sit down to play I am already tense because I know of the mental road blocks I face and that alone makes for a not so pleasant experience. Like for instance: I'll sit down to play and a guitar with a tempered scale will never be truley 100percent in tune like a piano so I'll be obsessing over this small about of warble in the tuning and start to feel myself get angry about it and want to flip out but instead put it down and walk away feeling defeated. Another example would be that I have a room that has accumulated a buck of cluter that I used to jam in. I have wanted to get this room straight for some time but I fear the hassles of starting it and not finding room for things or likeing the outcome so have avoided it. I understand that in the beginning avoiding situations is kind of needed when the withdrawal is bad but I'm at a better place now and feel working on these things will really help me when my frustrations, anxiety, and obsessive nature returns to a more normal state. If you have worked on CBT and found sucess in situations like these could you list a set of procedures that have worked for you that I may try? Possible present them in a step by step approach with what you do in tense moments or most importantly obsessive thoughts? I have read online about things to try but I get lost since the info is so braud and not directed to a certain situation. I will be finding a theropist in the near future but I know that will take some time to find a good person that fits me and I think hearing ideas here and trying results from other like minded people that have found success with things would be great. Thanks for any help. ![]() |

Re: Got any CBT tips for my situation?
It is not the mountains we conquer, it is ourselves. So start with extremely small goals, "I will spend 2 minutes cleaning this room."
Give yourself credit for starting something even if it doesn't feel like you got much done, its that you overcame the hardest obstacle, starting the project, that matters. If you can do it for 2 mins, then your next goal can be 5 mins, then 15 etc. |
