Bruising easy, what's this?
Hi, I have noticed that I am bruising very easily and accompanying this bruising is swelling, which both happen very quickly following any 'little' bump. Has anyone else experienced this? I have never bruised this easy before the med and have been off now for over two years, have nothing else in the mix and am relatively young still. What could be causing this, have had a blood test regarding this problem but came back normal. Any ideas?

Bruising like that can be indicative of anemia or diabetes. But, if they did blood tests, I'm sure they tested for those things. I had an aunt who had kidney issues and bruised easily.

Re: Bruising easy, what's this?
I too have been bruising VERY easily the last couple of years. Was just thinking the other day when I hit my shin lightly on something that I'll have a bruise the next day. Low and behold, a big bruise the next day. Had all bloodwork done last year and a few weeks ago again and I'm also fine. But I have NEVER been one to bruise easily. I have about 8 bruises on my legs just from lightliy knowcking into something. I've been off ADs for almost 9 mnths now. I wonder if there is a corelation. I'm not anemic or diabetic and my kidney functions were just tested along with a hundred other things. LoL

Re: Bruising easy, what's this?
Anemia, is that when you're low in vitamin b12, because I have been told that my levels of b12 are low and that I am to receive injections. I have not began them as of yet as I would like to know if my body has a problem metabolizing this vitamin first, I know you can request a specific test that will establish this. The strange thing is that I am not what I would describe an anemic person to be like, I never feel tired at all. There are just so many symptoms that accompany withdrawal I don't think I'll ever understand any of them.

Re: Bruising easy, what's this?
Isn't anemia associated with iron (ferratin) levels?
I used to be B12 defficient a couple of years ago but this time they were normal (closer to the mid/low range) and I stopped taking Bcomplex when my wd started.

Re: Bruising easy, what's this?
Anemia is low red blood cell count. Pernicious anemia is low B12. Two different things. Abnormal bruising(not just minor stuff, but big bruises) should be checked out by a doctor.

Re: Bruising easy, what's this?
A B-12 deficiency can cause easy bruising - and possibly indirectly some of your other symptoms, since some other nutrients need sufficient B-12 to be properly utilized by the body even if you have sufficient amounts of them in your body.
There are a few other nutrient deficiencies that might be the cause, but since you've been diagnosed with a B-12 deficiency, I would certainly suggest remedying that first. Give the B-12 injections a while and keep getting re-tested at the intervals your doctor suggests. Then you can reassess in the future. If you don't address the B-12 deficiency now, you won't know whether you're not getting enough of other nutrients or whether you are and your body isn't utilizing them. Whether you're lacking enough intrinsic factor or not, I think you need to get your B-12 levels up to normal before you can determine the cause. Be sure to get a well-rounded healthy diet while you're doing this and see how you do after that. Let us know how things go, okay?
