Contracting abdominal?

This is a hard phenomenon for me mainly cause i know its not wd related. I was wondering if more people recognize this.

When i was 22 years old and had my first relationship this started. Every time i meet her i contracted my lower abs. So i tightened the muscles below in my lower belly. Very hard. It sucks the energy out of me. When i was away from her it would lessen. But since then i had it at more occasions that were hard for me. Sometimes for days. Its always an indication that something is wrong but i dont have any thoughts with them so i have no idea. Its pretty extreme; like i have had a great trauma and now revisiting that same place or something.

Now since two weeks its back, and with a vengeance. I wake up in the morning with it and go to bed with it. Even if i try to mentally relax the muscles its hard or it will only last for a second. Its draining me from energy and it makes me sad. Very sad cause i had it prio to wd and i have no idea whats wrong. I even had a conversation with my mother about it if i experienced something very bad in my youth and my body is channeling that. Something in my subconscious must do it. I try to massage it and all though its very sensitive and painful (a muscle thats contracted for days) it helps. And i try to relax my body.

But does anyone recognize this phenomenon? Keeping your lower abs painfully contracted due to something mentally?
I would love to hear some recognition and/or tips since this is a problem prio to paxil (off course not as much as this like wd blows everything up)

Re: Contracting abdominal?

I have had this, although perhaps less severely. I believe it is a form of anxiety symptom, basically tension, which can happen subconsciously. I think it can be w/d related too. I have also found massage helps with it. Another thing that helped me was to visualise it like a knot in my belly and visualise gently untying that knot. This kind of muscular tension can occur in other places in the body as well, for example, it is quite common in the jaw.

Thanks,..that visualisation technique sounds helpful. I will try it :-)

You ever thought it is caused by some internal conflict? I always fear its cause of some big issue i have with my life or myself and thats inside me. Cause i had it at times where i had difficulty with a situation (work, relationship), something i could not handle. If i have it out of nowhere i fear something inside me is 'broken'

Re: Contracting abdominal?

Yes, I think it can be from internal tension about a particular issue. If it happens out of nowhere it could just be from general tension in the nervous system. Relaxation exercises might help. I don't think anything is 'broken'. I bet a lot of people have this without being consciously aware of it.
