Vitamin D anyone?

I just went for my yearly labs and my doc wanted to test vitamin D because it was borderline 2 years ago, apparently this is not tested often. I got a call last week saying my levels were very low, single digits. I started taking D3 supplements as my doctor had told me to, but I must say they made me feel LETHARGIC x 20 and SLOW and spacy. Just kind of weird. Vitamin D doesn't show any drug interactions with Luvox when I entered them both in the drug interaction checker at my work, of course one of my pharmacist friends told me to take the interaction checker with a grain of salt when it comes to luvox because there are some debatable enzymes of metabolism at play. Anyway, just talking out loud. I hope you are all doing well! Love!

Re: Vitamin D anyone?

Low vitamin D itself can cause fatigue so its possible that its not necessarily the supplement but the result of the deficiency. How much are you taking? Single digit D levels would warrant a prescription supplement, I'd imagine, but if you live in the states, then warmer weather is here and you can get more sun in too which will help.

I take 5,000mg a day for Vit D defiency, but my levels are not as low as yours. I'm in the teens. Make sure you retest in 3-4 months time to see if your supplement is effective and I'd keep taking a maintenance dose once you've stabilized it.

Re: Vitamin D anyone?

Thanks so much for replying Nickels! The lethargy and spaciness started 2 days after starting the D. I felt tired prior to that but nothing like the other. I read that some have this side effect. The doctor's office told me I could take up to a month's supply at one time to only have to feel this way for a while, but I am not sure what I will do yet.

Re: Vitamin D anyone?

We have lots of threads regarding vitamin d. You'll find lots of good info in them, as low vitamin d gets misdiagnosed many times and can cause many symptoms
