Can 5htp heal damaged brains? Interesting study

http://jpet.aspetjournals.org/content/196/2/307

Here is an excerpt

"Lesions in the medial forebrain bundle of the rat produced a 68 to 74% decrease in telencephalic serotonin (5-HT) and a 30 to 43% decrease in jump threshold. L-5-Hydroxytryptophan (L-5-HTP; 37.5 mg/kg) returned the 5-HT content and jump threshold of lesioned rats to normal levels"

That's interesting study, I tried 5HTP at around 18 months and I was sensitive to it, then one year later, I tried it again and I was not sensitive to it. It helped relieved some of my WD symptoms at around 2 years and half mark.

Thanks Alive can you provide more detail with your experience? When you say you were sensitive to it what sides did it give you? What withdrawal symptoms were you having at 2.5 years out that 5 htp helped relieve?
What dose were you on?
How long?

Sorry I know a million questions.

Thanks
FredJ

Strange set of symptoms, check my posts. I had severe wave at 2.5 and was under massive amount of stress and I reinstated, I was out of my mind but I am not going to give up..

I don't think supplements would really help unless you have your issues are caused by deficiency of certain vitman or nutrient. for me, When I was having severe food sensitvities, my body was not getting enough amino acids and when I took amino acids tablets, my mental health improved ten times in few days. I had some side effects to it like brain fog but it improved my sleep and took down my obsessions and repeating thoughts.

Based on my experience, good diet + exercise + good sleep + distractions + making it to at least 20 months is the best strategy to address withdrawal. Supplements would make you feel symptoms as the CNS is pretty sensitive for many. I ended up having many bottles of supplements that I could not used because of the sensitvity. I threw most of them.
