Caffeine & Alcohol & General Sensitivity to any substance!

Hi!

Well ive been feeling a good deal better over the last couple of weeks

Im 100% sure now that my anxiety is down too withdrawl, it feels different from normal anxiety, much more up and down with big fluctautions in symptoms & intensity, it has a different feel! I guess I just seriously underestimated the length of time it was gonna take me to get off Seroxat and how hard it would be!

Anyway, It seems summer has arrived here in the UK, woo hoo! And I do really enjoy a beer or two, and a coffee in the sunshine (especially in the morning) but I seem to have an intense reaction too both at the mo, alcohol makes me feel really sedated whilst on it, dopey and really tired, then hangovers are horrible with strong worry/anxiety. Same with caffeine, its soooo intense after coffee, im wired like a hyperactive mere cat, bouncing off the walls with anxiety! I was ok on the full dose of 20mg. Just wondered if this was common and how long I have to wait til I can enjoy my favourite vices once more!

Thanks
Jeff

Re: Caffeine & Alcohol & General Sensitivity to any substance!

i cant drink diet coke/pepsi anymore.

i had a pint of it in a pub a couple of months back and it made me so dizzy.

so now i drink lime and soda.

you probably dont wanna hear this but i is probably best to steer clear of caffeine and sugary food during tapering. i am a sugar addict so for me - this is hard!

good this anxiety isnt it?

take it easy x
p.s. never underestimate how hard it is to get off of seroxat - it is tough.

Hang in there Jeff...its common to not be able to tolerate caffeine or alcohol while in WD. Most people can eventually go back to consuming these offenders once they are feeling better. Maybe try some decaff instead if you really crave the flavor.

Thanks! Ill give decaff a whirl and stay away from alcohol, although I have a stag party to go too soon which will prove tricky, trying to convince 15 lads you cant really drink is going to be a tough ask!

I have quit nicotine, caff, and alcohol during my last year of SSRI WD. For me there is no need in throwing any gas on the fire...

Decaf actually contains caffeine, though. I was very surprised myself when I found out, but it certainly explained the effects decaf was having on me, which I just couldn't understand. It contains less than regular coffee, but any amount is probably a bad idea in WD.

That is true sunflower and something to keep in mind...personallly, I was able to tolerate decaf tea. I guess it varies from person to person.

Re: Caffeine & Alcohol & General Sensitivity to any substance!

Ill give the Decaff tea a bash! although is it just me or does it taste a bit fishy?? Was feeling pretty ok Mon & Tues so endulged in a latte with 2 shots of espresso in it, such a bad idea!! I couldnt sit down (which is bad as im a designer) I had to go into the warehouse and help out, flying round like a maniac packing wetsuits and grinding my teeth trying too burn off the anxiety!!

Oh dear...I did that to myself last week. I didn't do anything productive like pack wetsuits though. It varies day to day with me. Sometimes coffee and alcohol bother me sometimes they don't. Once this is over I know it won't bother me at all...but right now, it's a crap shoot each day how I'll feel. When the anxiety is high coffee is out of the question.

Re: Caffeine & Alcohol & General Sensitivity to any substance!

I've had to cut out all alcohol and coffee not just while tapering, but also on my full Lex dose.

Once in a while, when I feel like I'm having a good day, I will have a decaf cappuccino. It does wire me up a bit, because of the residual caffeine. I make sure I don't go out jogging that day or whatever else will get me even more pumped up or else I'd be risking big-time restlessness/nervousness/anxiety.

Meh, I don't mind though. I've gotten to the point where I just enjoy my sparking water while others are boozing it up And YAY for no hangover haha!
