The lower and lower you decrease the brain would start to heal more and more. Seems to be the case. It takes time for the brain to be messed up so it takes time to heal as well. Crazy how long it takes though. To heal that is.

Yeah I haven't been in a lab or anything but I'm pretty sure eveyone will agree that taking the drug slowly away from the brain gives it time to adjust at a slower pace and make the nessacary changes needed to get the brain working correctly again.

I think the brain must heal as you lower your dose, logically, you have less drug in there, less effect, less changes with each dose drop. If nothig started to repair and restore until you were off, then it wouldn't matter if you CT's or tapered, nothing would happen until you were off.

When you taper slowly you are in a state of continuous withdrawal. Things start to change for sure. You are depriving (detox) yourself little by little from that agent and at the same time your receptors *should* start to upregulate and serotonin *should* starts to increase. That is why each and every drop you get some WD symptoms. Of course, never like a cold turkey WD, that is a shock to the entire CNS. But the true healing is when all toxins leave your body for good and your brain is on its own. Remember, paxil is fat soluble. Unlike cocaine and heroin which are water soluble and much easier to detox.

I need to read up on the fat soluble side of things. Not to familular with that. I do know this is tough and all of us should be proud of ourselves for sticking it out and seeing it through to the end. No doubt I think the failure rate for coming clean is much higher than success.

The problem is that these pills dont cure anything. And WD can initiate new issues not related to your original condition like depression, agitation, chemical anxiety , DP/DR, physical issues and more. Those that were not part of your original condition, should subside with time and I assume will be minimized by a proper tapering schedule. But sometimes they take time ( months).

But lets say you started paxil for deep depression. Then after many years you feel great, start an extended taper, go as slow as you should. Finally stop the medication and a few weeks down the road depression hits you like a tornado. Guess what? your problem is back and with a vengeance.
Here is when a therapist is valuable.

this is a wonderful document you can read online. ( kind of technical but easy to digest, it explains lots of issues, pharmacokinetics and so related to these meds, how they work and why they give us such a hard time...)

As you taper, the brain adjusts to the dosing. This is why we advocate a slow taper and at small increments. So, your brain is gently getting itself back to normal chemical levels, as you decrease.
