Fortified Breakfast Egg Nog
I found this recipe that my parents used to use when I was a kid. It sounds like it's got lots of good stuff for the body and the brain:
Fortified Breakfast Egg Nog "Currier's Cocktail" 1 or 2 glasses of non-fat milk (certified raw milk if available) 1 or 2 eggs 1 or 2 tbsp. powdered skim milk 1 tbsp. Wheat Germ and/or Rice Polishings 1 tbsp. Primary Food yeast or Brewer's Yeast 1 tbsp. Lecithin Granules 1 tbsp. Powdered Liver-Protein (such as) High-Protec (Kalash Vitamin Corp., 1090 E. Walnut St. Pasadena Calif.) 1 teaspoon cold processed Safflower oil or Corn Oil. Flavorings: (choice of ground date-coconut, malt, yogurt, banana, peanut butter, vanilla, nutmeg or cinnamon, dash of salt, decaf. coffee crystals, frozen fruit jouces, pureed baby fruits, etc.) Suggested mixing method: Beat eggs with food liquefier, or may use electric mixer or hand whip. Add powdered milk, wheat germ, yeast, lecithin, High-Protec and blend. Add milk and flavoring and blend. It is better if ingredients are kept in the refrigerator. Note: This must taste good! Flavor according to your likes. If any one or more of the ingredients are distasteful at first, use small amounts or elininate altogether. A whole fruit taken with this gives added bulk to your breakfast. You may have anything else you desire for your breakfast though no additional breakfast is necessary. If weight is a proble, you should eliminate 300 to 400 calories of the "empty calorie" foods during the rest of the day. The egg nog contains 350-400 calories. Nourishing High Protein Pancakes: 1 pint of Cottage Cheese 4 eggs 3 tbsp. whoel wheat pastry flour 4 tbsp. soybean oil, safflower oil or corn oil (cold/expeller pressed). dash of salt. Blend cheese and eggs in blender until very smooth; add other ingredients, blend smooth. Bake on lightly greased griddle. Serve with applesauce, loganberries, blueberries or any other frozen or fesh fruit, etc. They are especially delicious when rolled into rolls with sour cream on the inside and re-heated (to warm the sour cream) and served with melted butter. Bth they are rather high in calories! From the office of W. D. Currier M.D., 900 East Green St., Pasadena, Ca 9110? (These are old recipes. I found the pancake recipe in with the eggnog recipe so I included it. It was part of a hypoglycemia diet my father and myself were on shen I was a teenager. It is very old. I remember having to work up a taste for it. I plan on using soy milk or rice milk as now I'm allergic to milk. I remember feeling pretty good on it. I doubt that Dr. Currier is still alive, though I may look it up. I'm not sure about the company that makes the liver protein either. They also suggest as supplement called K-54. I don't remember what that was or if it still exists. Nevertheless, from reading about all the stuff on protein and amino acids and brain function I thought it might be helpful.) Diana

Re: Fortified Breakfast Egg Nog
Mmmmm that looks good hope. Thanks for the recipes.
I'm into trying to find ways to disguise lecithin granules, wheat germ and flax meal in my kids breakfast. This will help. I remember when I was a kid, we made something called a milkshake with a raw egg, ice, vanilla and milk. Raw eggs became nutritionally incorrect for awhile. Now they are back en vogue. I'll definitely try the egg nog.

Re: Fortified Breakfast Egg Nog
I've been trying to eat more eggs. The ingredient that made me cringe was the powdered liver protein.

Re: Fortified Breakfast Egg Nog
I've been reading some testimonials from people who take powdered liver. It seems to be very nutritious and help peoople who are chronically ill. THe thing that worries me about it is since its a filtering organ, are we ingesting the chemicals and things the animal is filtering out?

I just remembered now something about liver that my MIL used to make for my then 2-4 year old daughter. When she was low in appetite, my MIL used to pulverize/grind up raw calf's liver, mix it in a hot broth and had my daughter eat it. She said it would open up the appetite and that it was healthy!! Also another fortifier from her. 1 RAW egyolk - mix it with a small glass of RED wine and drink it. You can add a little sugar to it.

Re: Fortified Breakfast Egg Nog
Good question. This liver thing has been used by Europeans for a long time and I have heard from those who talk about "the old ways" that it was used in the US as well. Here's my theory. The introduction of chemicals into the land and food that connect with the lives of whatever animal liver we are talking about makes those livers different from the ones that people's grandparents used.
If you knew that the animal hung out on a nice little organic not near chemical factories or steel mills then it would be a great thing. Now I know this is going to sound weird, but I met a relative a few years ago who could afford any health care she wanted and she and her husband used to fly over to see their doctor in Germany from New York twice a year. Her husband who had almost lost all of his hair used to take animal placenta. His hair grew back completely as if he were a teenager. My theory on the liver is that because the liver naturally detoxes, it would be really lively and healthy. Remember, the liver is the only organ that can completely regenerate. That's why living donors can give away half of their liver and both the donor and recipient grow a whole new liver. The catch is this: how do you make sure that you get an animal's liver who grew up on a little organic farm and was not killed with the knowledge of the animal so you don't get the fear hormones, and the family that owned the farm was Little House on the Prarie. There is not doubt in my mind that wealthy Europeans are finding just such livers, but for the rest of us? Good luck.

Re: Fortified Breakfast Egg Nog
Yes, I agree and the naturopath told me the same exact thing about the powdered liver. I'm in the process of looking for an organic source. We have an organic meat market close by and I bought some yesterday. I hate to swallow the stuff.

Re: Fortified Breakfast Egg Nog
Found some organic liver powder. Ta Da!! I used this company on my last order. I liked them a lot. Don't tell my naturopath, but the stuff I got here was cheaper than hers.
