Youthdales/Psychiactric Institutions

Has anyone had a bad experience in one? Post a reply.

If you or someone you know has been in Youthdale, I would love to hear about their experience.

Talk to me Cober, what exactly are you asking? Please advise your problem and how old you are. Is Youthdale suggesting you commit yourself for their two week evaluation? You can pm me if you are not comfortable posting.

You do not have to wait until you turn eighteen, there is a service in toronto that advocate on behalf of youth under eighteen. You can contact "Justice For Children and Youth" for legal advice, which they will provide to you for free.

Tried that, and they say that they cannot help me. Although, I will give it a second try. I am already dealing with the CCHR.

Sickening isn't it. I am so sorry to hear you went through this. They tried to get my daughter there as well at age 9. Real scary.

Re: Youthdales/Psychiactric Institutions

You said on another thread that you were involved with CCHR, why do you need to be 18, they should be able to help you out now. Who are you in contact with at CCHR?

Re: Youthdales/Psychiactric Institutions

I gave Ms. Hurry at the CCHR all my info, and we talk almost on a daily basis. They want my mother to come in and sign something in order for them to do things. I really don't mind waiting, it will give me time to hopefully find people who want to sue them, therefore making it a class-action, and therefore causing more damage to Youthdale.

I also urge those to call Ms. Hurry if you have ANY complaints about a Psychiactric hospital here in Toronto. Here is the contact info:

Suite 304
Toronto, Ontario

Re: Youthdales/Psychiactric Institutions

Here is a suggestion, you only have a handful of people here from Canada, by all means bump it up, howver do not limit it here. Tons of message boards in toronto that include mental health for kids etc., spread your posts around.

Re: Youthdales/Psychiactric Institutions

Do a google search, visit all the classifieds in Tor, post under health. Google kids chat in toronto etc.

Can I ask you something, who suggested at age 11 that you go to Youthdale for help? Was it a special education program? You do not have to answer if not comfortable.

Re: Youthdales/Psychiactric Institutions

I started legal proceedings against Youthdale on August 31, 2005, about a month after I turned 18. I have filed a claim for $10,000.00 in Small Claims Court. Youthdale's lawyer, Susan Adam Metzler, stated in her defence that the Mental Health Act does not apply.

I thought I was doomed.

Until....

I found the act that Youthdale ran under, which is the Child and Family Services Act.

I took a look at my records, and found out that the have violated a lot more than I thought they did. The following sections of the Child and Family Services Act were violated:

(Edited content due to possible misuse of information by the defense in this case- Scotty)

I still haven't seen a new defence from Ms. Metzler, as she seems to wait until the last minute to file a defence.

Well, the pre-trial conference comes up on January 3!

I can't wait to hear what they have to say!

Re: Youthdales/Psychiactric Institutions

Congrats!! It is about time someone goes after them. They work side by side with all the children's mental health programs in Toronto, parents need to speak up as well.

Very proud of you for going forth with this, sometimes these things are easier left behind, but then do not help the kids that are involved in the future.

Good luck to you!! Try and get this in the news if at all possible.

Re: Youthdales/Psychiactric Institutions

I'm still waiting to see if they're going to settle, but I will know for sure on January 3.

Apparently people have tried to sue them in the past, but Youthdale has that Susan Adam Metzler defending them, who apparently specializes in defending these crooks.

Hi Liam,
I would call all the newspapers, they would certainly like to hear your story. I think it is awful. If they give you a sum of money you might have to sign away your rights to talk about it. The Best of Luck to you. I'll come in every day and bump for you. There would probably be more people in here, but it is Holiday season. You will get lots of posting soon.

Re: Youthdales/Psychiactric Institutions

Liam, congratulations!!

It takes a lot of guts to take on a big institution, so you seem to be a very strong young man!!! Kudo's for that!!

Hopefully, you have lots of support? Make sure that if/when you settle that you don't sign away your right to talk!

Good luck and keep us posted please?

Re: Youthdales/Psychiactric Institutions

Small claims court? That didn't dawn on me... This case merits a Superior Court!! Wish I could come up with some ideas but sofar.... no clue.

There seems to be no justice here for the ones that need it the most. D*rn lawyers who require $$ PRIOR to taking on a case.
