While on this drug do friends, family, etc. treat you differently?

Well like say that a friend always treated horriblly is there a chance while on this drug the friend could start acting differently because you yourself has started 2 changed from the sdrug? Does the drug change you personally? Like your personality etc.?

Does it make you less afraid of things? Does it really get rid of your social phobia's, social anixety, depression, etc. while on the drug? I know when you go off it comes back but when your on the drug it gets rid of all that right?

Re: While on this drug do friends, family, etc. treat you differently?

Lil Kis I can't really address your question about friends treating you differently. I suppose that if your friends were pulling away from you because of your depresssion or anxiety then if the drug works for you they may come back to you.

As for your other questions. I can only speak for myself. Paxil has made me less afraid and worried about things, I feel very comfortable in social situations where before I would avoid them at all cost.

I have been on Paxil for 6 years now and it has completely changed my life.

As you know starting Paxil is not a decision you want to make lightly. If you and your Dr. are looking at it for short term to get through some temporary crisis in your life, DON't Do it. Seek Therapy instead. If however, you have suffered from Anxiety all of your life attributed to a chemical Imbalance and Therapy has not worked for you, I think it is very worth considering.

I think what it will do is make you become more distant and less emotional. You may start to 'throw caution to the wind' and make stupid financial decisions. Some people become kind of zombie-like. No ups and no downs.

I would say, yes. If your attitude changed it makes sense that people might treat you differently.

P-crud can make you "feel" better but so can therapy and exercise and meditation and massages and yoga and thai chi and sex and that stuff is healthy!!!!!

Peace!

Maybe HappyPaxilCamper will share with his new found audience what it's like living the life of someone addicted to Paxil.

I think the bottom line is, everyone is different!

For some it takes away emotion, for many others it
helps you alleviate anxiety and makes you comfortable
in situations that used to provoke panic.

I have to agree with HAPPYPAXILUSER on this one, and
suggest trying cognitive behavioral therapy FIRST (stay
off the drug if you can ) and if that doesn't work
the combination will hopefully help you.

I used both and am very happy.

A good friend of mine used to do a lot of the drug Ecstacy. He was always less afraid of things and had zero inhibitions while on this drug. Sounds like this is what you're looking for. Unfortunately it's an illegal drug. Not sure why it's treated different than Paxil....

Re: While on this drug do friends, family, etc. treat you differently?

My first thought is this "friend" may be a person who has a problem. Even if you change, there is no guarantee that he/she will respond favorably.

For the most part, my personality didn't change. I still like / dislike all the same stuff, still have the same wild sense of humor, same hopes & dreams, etc.

At my best, I was a much more outgoing and my explosive temper disappeared. From time to time I would find myself in a situation and would recognize that "this really would have bothered me before." I was able to recognize that I spent too much of my time worrying about "small stuff." I found it easier to meet women and was going on more dates than at any other time in my life. I also found that my ability to feel love was as equally muted as my old fears and temper. None of the relationships lasted very long and after some time my sex drive went to zero.

But, now I'm pretty much back to where I was before even though I'm still on Paxil. I know someone who called Paxil her "I don't give a crap" pills. NOW I understand. Now I avoid social situations simply because I don't give a crap. I don't know if I'm still depressed because I don't give a crap. I don't love because I don't give a crap and I don't hate because I don't give a crap.

I don't envy the decision you have to make.

" "I don't give a crap""pills

Best explanation of paxil that I've seen yet!

Brannigan, I guess I've kinda been waiting for an opportunity to post directly to you, so I'll take this opportunity now.

I think you rock, man. Your posts are honest, real, candid and enlightening. You are supportive to others despite what you are personally going through. You offer insightful glimpses into your own very private world so the rest of us can benefit from your experiences and feel just a little bit more normal.

YOU are a very welcomed addition to this forum.

Thank-you!!

just my opinion.
I have 12 yrs expirience with Paxhil.
it would make more sense to me to ask a monkey to fix my computer with a hammer than it would to ask a doctor to fix my brain with paxil.
best wishes,

There are lots of other options besides medication therapy.
There's individual therapy, group therapy, support groups, books and workbooks, spiritual growth stuff, etc etc etc

and then....there's us! (((((hugs)))))

Laurie: Thank my sister for the "I Don't Give a Crap Pill" term. She invented it. (Hmmm, interesting how family members have the same reactions to the same drug. I see a new topic coming on...)

Suze: Wow, what nice things you said! I've changed my avatar to represent how much those kind words made me blush. (Ha, made you look! I'm on Paxil, I can't blush!) Seriously, that was easily the nicest thing anyone has said to me in a long time. I enjoy reading your posts as well! YOU rock!

Hi pogologo,

You're VERY smart doing it without the meds.

I was naieve enough to trust the doc who switched from one to another meds. The result? 10 years on these drugs with only side-effects. They didn't help with my mood.

Do you know we have a great supplement forum?

Fish Oil and magnesium helps for depression and anxiety too if you wish to follow the alternative route in addition to the excellent responses you have received sofar.
