Welcome Steelmagnolia you have certainly come to the right place. You will find information in here, that you wouldn't see any where else. It is from the experts, the people who are going through it or have gone through it. I will thank Darcy for the rest of my life for this site, also all the wonderful people in here who have helped me.
You know when you talked about your hair, I often felt the urge to take the scissors to my hair. I didn't do it, but I never felt like that before Paxil. Good Luck. eileen

Maybe I'll stop eating out so much and lose weight and save some money. I just might be able to make it.

Re: Paxil Protest: Spring, 2006
Rumblings are about that perhaps I/we should export the Paxil Protest to the UK ... right smack at Glaxo's world headquarters. This idea has much going for it....
1) Britain is a much smaller country, and Paxil (Seroxat) victims would have a far easier time traveling to the staging area. Plus, the U.K. has an excellent public transportation system. 2) The 1500 UK citizens who are part of the Hugh James led class action suit against Glaxo have not been muzzled by a gag order/settlement, and therefore still have a free hand to participate. 3) I have been told that several members of the British Parliament might be persuaded to participate (Paul Flynn comes to mind.) 4) The British press has done a demonstrably better job latching on to Glaxo and running adverse stories about the company. I am confident we could get the press to turn out in force to cover the event. 5) I think there is a very good chance turnout would be in the hundreds. 6) Perhaps insetad of just a Paxil/Seroxat protest the event could be made a GSK protest in general. GSK drug victims of all kinds, animal rights activists, ex Glaxo employees etc.... These are just a few ideas that comes to mind. All feedback appreciated ... we've got some time to work with in advance of an announcement by Michael Moore's camp that his new Healthcare/Big Pharma movie "Sicko" is going to hit movie theaters. My expectation is Sicko will be out approximately six to ten weeks before the 2006 elections here in the U.S. ... and that President Bush and his fellow Republicans are going to take some (more) massive hits in the movie. |

Re: Paxil Protest: Spring, 2006
Moving it to the UK is an excellent idea. A thing like this is likely to get more media attention in a smaller country. Where in England is GSK head quarters?

Re: Paxil Protest: Spring, 2006
Sounds great to me Rob, you know I'll be there if I can be at all. Flights to the UK aren't usually that expensive and as I understand it there is a corner in London where you are permitted to say almost anything you want about anything. Do we have a lot to say.....

Re: Paxil Protest: Spring, 2006
Just a thought but I think it would be great if people that were adversely affected by any SSRI / SNRI came out to support the protest. If asked why they could simply respond that they were there to support the GSK protest but they had take Ciprimil or Zoloft or whatever the case might be and this is what happened to me. I think the signage should be consistant in targeting GSK but there are an awful lot of horror stories out there for other drugs as well.
Just a thought

Re: Paxil Protest: Spring, 2006
Charlie, the thought of Speaker´s Corner in Hyde Park occured to me as well. It´s a great place, always lots of people. A well prepared speech there on a Sunday afternoon would get many listeners and is a great place for a get-together picnic if the weather´s nice.

Re: Paxil Protest: Spring, 2006
The press here would be onto it pretty quickly. It could get some heavy publicity. My sister is press photographer for a small local newspaper, maybe she might help, im not sure.
In my opinion we are WAY ahead of the US when it comes to admitting withdrawal etc. Obviously Paul Flynn, among others will be interested in some way and maybe help with some publicity. I am a member of the seroxat user groups in the UK and can help spread the word. If I can help in any way, Chris

Good idea, Laurie! Will gladly send you one if I canŽt make it there but if I can get the money IŽll certainly try. If still unable to stand up or walk properly IŽll use a wheelchair!

Re: Paxil Protest: Spring, 2006
skidder i thought the uk was up on withdrawal ect ect till i visited a uk site and they had no idea of the true withdrawal effects they really believed it was over in weeks and that alternate days was the best way to taper made me think is that how it is here? maybe its my part of the uk too where docs deny withdrawal and still advise alternate and quick weaning schedules,i know the press of it has been good and panarama and stuff but i thought it had really gone quiet over here, but hey ill take your word maybe im missing things

Re: Paxil Protest: Spring, 2006
Jo, I totally agree. My doctor's surgery is still handing out ad's like sweets. They have their heads so far up their own arses and do not seem to have caught on to how dangerous these drugs are. I do agree with Chris though, that our coverage over here seems better. There is a GSK plant just up the road from me. I am not sure that it is anything other than a factory, although it may be. As it's so heavily staffed at the main gate I have never been able to get in there!!!! Do we know where the main headquarters are? We can't have our American counterparts accusing us of being lazy!!!! I sure would like to get involved somehow with the protest. I will never forget the trauma being on paxhell caused to my family. I would like to be able to say or do something to keep spreading the word.

Re: Paxil Protest: Spring, 2006
My doctors surgery might still be handing out AD's like candy but im pretty sure there not dishing out seroxat(according to my GP anyway).
The seroxat yahoo group is pretty good at all the withdrawal stuff although a bit boring I must say. My GP saw me in full blown withdrawal from this crap.It was not a pretty sight.I couldnt speak and had to write down all the effects I was experiencing.Im pretty sure he believed me.He then sent me to my first appointment with a shrink. The shrink said I was suffering from withdrawal and a depressive episode, bearing in mind Ive never had any psychological problems before. So he says try venlafaxine, obviously I refused. So unless these doctors have actually seen it with their own eyes I dont think they will believe it, as they havent been informed correctly either. Every major newspaper in this country has carried some sort of "im addicted to seroxat"or commented on the withdrawal story. Mr Paul Flynn(MP)has rallied alot for this cause and still does so.We had Panorama,we have a class action, the PIL has doubled in side-effects and have removed the statement 'seroxat is not addictive' aswell as admitting to a withdrawal and tapering regime etc,Under 18s arent allowed to be prescribed,we have the largest MHRA yellow card reports, the list goes on and on...

You can get free bumper stickers from Paxilprotest.com - black with white letters spelling out the web address. I've had mine for a few months and people do ask questions!

It is proudly placed on the rear window of my car... right underneath "Paxil, unsafe at any dose". GREAT conversation starter!!!

Where did you get "Paxil - Unsafe at any dose" ? I tried to get the posters from that site and even sent in a check. But they sent it back to me and said they were out of posters...
