Im with you ~ i cannot concentrate on all this script at this time and in scanning it i didnt see anything about how much one should take? I bought some today and just wonder if the amount they suggest is enough? ~ thnx

its the epa that is important. i believe 1 g of epa daily is what you want. I found the softgels cause burps and stomach problems for me and I need like 12 of them to get 1g of epa daily. So I got liquid, cheaper, no burps or stomach problems and I get my 1g of epa daily. I buy the now brand, its like $15 for a month and a half, so about $.30 a day.

Im not used to reading suppliments i guess - but the bottle says 1200 mg on front - then on back it says
serving size 2 capsules
fish oil concentrate 2400mg
Omega-3 EPA 432
Omega-3DHA 288
is it just me? or it doesnt make sense? Ah well i suppose so long as i look at EPA im good eh?

well i wouldnt get too involved in how many mg's of omega 3's it says. for example mine says something like 1500mg per serving but yet it only has 750 mg of epa, so I take 2 teaspoons. DHA is important as well but most should have the DHA at 3/4 of what the EPA. But I think the EPA is the most important factor and I believe 1mg is what you want.

whole foods has a more expensive version, its the carlsons but its essentially exactly what I have. Its not cod liver, its omega 3. So find a whole foods and they have carlsons its about $22 for 45 servings. Its not too expensive. If you have any supplement stores nearby they should have what I have or be able to get it, its now brand omega 3 fish oil liquid.

Sorry if this is already mentioned somewhere, but can fish oil ('Nature Made') go bad? Lately, when I open the bottle, it has a very strong putrid smell. I'm sure the stuff smells a little bit from the start, but how do you know when the stuff is bad? Any idea what "too smelly" would be, and how to describe it to me? I'm just trying to figure out if mine has gone bad. The bottle says that it expires November, 2010.

Yes, it can go bad. It can become rancid, just like cooking oil on your shelf.

Fish oil is medically proven to be an EXCELLENT supplement and helpful in so many ways. It was only a matter of time before big pharma tried to hop that bandwagon.

One of the funniest thread on cafepharma is the reps complaining that people are going to the pharmacy with prescriptions for this and the pharmacist is pointing to the OTC fish oil instead!!! I love pharmacists!

I agree 100%, Alto. Research is absolutely still in its infancy and I also don't think anyone can categorically say what either does.

I think, if you're happy with whatever brand you're taking, stick with it. I also think it's important to get a lot of Omega-3s, no matter how you do it - be it through foods or supplements.

I take what I take based on what I believe and what I've read and I think others should do the same. There is no wrong answer here and as with ANY supplement, drug, etc. do your own research and draw your own conclusions.
