afraid to ask....

Hi all,

A couple of weeks ago, on a friday evening, I suddenly developed a fever.
Initially I suspected it as just a flu. But the fever went up to 40 degrees
celcius (no idea wat that is in Fharenheit) but I don't remember ever having
a fever that high. Saturday it even went up a bit and I just started to see things
that where not there. I went to see a docter and he thought it was
meningitus.....and he sent me to the hospital straight away...
There I was put on a high dose of antibiotics and it was not untill monday
that the fever started to lower a bit. My blood and sputum ? was sent
to the lab to be analised for bacteria. That takes a couple of days.
On wednesday the fever was gone, and I was released on friday.
Well it wasn't meningitus, that was clear, and the doctor in the
hospital thought it to be pneumonia.....there is an x-ray that shows
someting in my lungs.... 2 weeks later I had to go to the hospital to
make sure I was ok again...so again x-rays where taken and blood was tested.
Everything turned out to be ok....so I was relieved.....
But they have never been able to find a bacteria ( ie. pneumacoc)
or anything else for that matter that caused my fever....
This is what I find strange...pneumonia just like that.....
does that exist ?

Could al this have been a side effect from stopping with paxil.
See my story below.....
I never dared to ask this in the hospital.

Has anyone seen or experienced a similar thing ?

Re: afraid to ask....

Sounds more viral to me if they thoroughly tested for bacteria. I've had the hot flashes along the way, but never an undying fever - not to say that it's not possible. The immune system becomes very vulnerable when coming off these meds.

Re: afraid to ask....

yeah....i thought just about the same exact thing as delyn. sounds viral. took the body a few days to knock it out of you.....and then it settles down. 40 C...is 104 F. I had to check it out. VERY high fever. but not so high as to cause any permanent damage i think. the body is pretty good about that.

Re: afraid to ask....

Hi all,

It just makes more sense indeed, if it was a viral infection....
I feel a lot better now Elisa....thanks for asking.
But I still wonder what it was that hit me a couple of weeks ago.
For just one day my temp even went up to 41C deg.
that about 106F...Much of what happend during 4 days
is just a blurr to me....

If this was also due to stopping on paxil.....what is next.....

Re: afraid to ask....

Oliver, I don't believe that this is paxil related, but a nasty virus that got you. Relax and breath!! Since they didn't find anything bacterial, this will runs it's course and be gone. Viruses can be nasty buggers! Glad you're feeling better.

A very high fever will most definitely make those days a blurr!!

Although you've recovered from the pneumonia, your immune system might still be down. So take care of yourself Olivier.
