Dr. Stoll
Anyone ever heard of this guy - http://askwaltstollmd.com/ - particularly the condition called "bracing"? Could be a condition many of us have who are experiencing muscle pain in withdrawal....I know that based on his desciption, I have it.

Re: Dr. Stoll
I have never heard of him, however any form of relaxation and/or stretching will help in withdrawal for sure. Tons of stuff on this site, will check it out tomorrow... time for bed now

Re: Dr. Stoll
Yes, I have unfortunately heard of this "guy". He is no longer a licenced physicain. He lost his licence to practice for sending his patients amphetamines in the mail without ever actually seeing the patients. He sounds very good on the surface but if you dig futher on his forum you will find him giving people some very bad medical advise. I do like some of his therory on magnesium but I believe Mr. Stoll is more chemically imbalanced then anyone on this site could dream of. I am suprised that he is allowed to run the forum he does and he continues to practice giving dangerous advise to innocent and nieve people. He also charges a large fee for anyone to get phone consultations with him. Very odd - how injustices happen in so many ways.

Re: Dr. Stoll
the description of "bracing" sounds like a reasonable description for the physiology of what happens to you....but i didnt find anything other than relaxation techniques listed as ways to help the situation.....and in that case it becomes just another label.
some posts went into leaky gut....so that leads me down the nutrition path as a cause....but without some real information on what and why...its not real helpful to me. What i personally found about the symptom described was again that magnesium seems to greatly help it....and also avoiding calcium while adding magnesium really greatly helps it. and yes....as do relaxation exercises and stretching. |

Re: Dr. Stoll
Yes - I agree. I am a skeptic by design and always wonder if any of this works. Like alot of us, we are always seeking ways to cure our conditions and alot of what he says makes sense however, for what Ive read, he seems to always lead you with answers that come up just short of being specific and helpful. Of course, you can buy his books which will give you the "helpful" information.
I personally believe that I have the condition he calls "bracing". I have tuned into my body over the last few days and catch myself constantly clenching my jaw, squinting, shoulders raised, neck muscles clenched, etc. I am on 400Mg of Magnesium and 3000mg of Fish Oil and have been since month 3 of my W/D. Re: Dr. Stoll
Welcome, I guess my clincher in reading up on the alleged “Dr.” Stoll. Was his post to a distressed woman asking his advise on her husbands need for an immediate open heart surgery – “Dr.” Stoll’s reply was to not have the surgery he would help instead of the surgery.
My second clincher to see that the system is right about “Dr." Stoll. Is his advise to people with MVP to salt load for their MVPS symptoms. He disregards the leaking heart valve as a “normal variant”. So if a person has a severe heart valve leak with their MVP he will disregard it and request them to salt load which can cause high blood pressure and for one with a substantial heart valve leak, high blood pressure can cause an acute surgery need for survival. Then I looked up his credentials and saw that it has been discovered that he is a danger. Lisa |

Re: Dr. Stoll
I have mentioned Dr. Stoll a few times in the past. I have his book and have frequented his web site. I ran across him when I was diagnosed with costochondritis (caused from bracing).
Allopathic doctors put me on high doses of anti-inflammatory drugs, when Dr. Stoll recommended magnesium, vitamin C, fish oil, and skilled relaxation. His methods are unconventional by Western standards, but I'm not convinced that makes him a quack. His book makes sense, and he offers some very interesting theories, especially the one about leaky gut syndrome. I've haven't seen the salt load advice for MVP - only that the "symptoms" of MVP are often just that, as MVP is often over-diagnosed, and the symptoms can be relieved with magnesium and skilled relaxation. That in itself does not seem strange to me. But I do disagree with this claim that skilled relaxation is the only cure for bracing. I've since discovered that cranio-sacral therapy is very therapeutic for my "bracing."
