i still have hope! relief is coming!

I think I accidentally helped myself..

Last night.. I felt really swollen, my neck and all around my throat, but particularly my right side..

I couldn't sleep so I took a 25mg sleep aid (diphenhydramine).

Woke up, the swelling was gone.. so was the weird ear/neck thing that has been driving me crazy!

Could all of this be a reaction to the withdrawal from paxil..?

do the histamine properties in paxil make you become dependent on them?

i find this intersting.. maybe benadryl (very small dose) is going to make me feel normal?

this is the most normal day i have had since after the first week off paxil!

i didn't feel cloudy or anything!

maybe just coincidence? i am trying it again tonight and see if i get lucky again tomorrow!

any thoughts?

Re: i still have hope! relief is coming!

It's certainly possible, sheri. Paxil w/l can cause a histamine reaction, and diphenhydramine is an antihistamine, sooooo... If it works again, then you'll know for sure. Good luck.

I have heard of people getting some relief with Benadryl.

It can be very sedating for some and agitating for others.

Re: i still have hope! relief is coming!

sherijo, I had my best day ever yesterday since tapering down, but I've been taking melatonin, a supplement for relaxation and sleep. Not too sure if this is helping as I didn't get a wink of sleep last night. Does Benadryl contain any alcohol?

glad you're feeling better

Kelli

Re: i still have hope! relief is coming!

hi kel!

thank you!
and benadryl has basically diphenhydramine in it.. its used for allergies, sometimes makes you drowsy (over the counter sleep aid too)
it is an anti-histimine.. it dries up your sinuses a little and keeps allergies at bay. i just buy the generic because it's the same ingredient, and its WAY cheaper than benadryl! like almost 1/2 the price.

i bought melatonin but i haven't taken it since i am am still on .25 xanax, and i have a fear of combining.

sounds like you are better too kelli!
so glad to hear that!
