I signed. Paroxetine has stolen years of my life. The doctors who told me to take it didn't say a single word about the negative aspects of this horrible drug. Anything I can do to stop and protect more people from going onto this drug is worth my time.

Did you know that Bayer (asprin) used to sell Heroin as medicine? After they figured out how horrible it was for you, they removed it from the market. I hope this is the same outcome for this terrible drug. I personally know a heroin addict who has been trying to quit for years-- when she's on it, she acts completely normal. It's only when she's in withdraws that she acts different. Sound familiar?

I'm down to 5mg from 20. Can't wait to be FREEEEE!

Just went on a signed too.

This drug has taken so much of my life and from my families lives too. I am totally amazed that GSK has got away with this for so long. Back in 1997 I was assured by my doctor this was asafe and non-addictive alternative to the MAOI I was on for panic disorder and depression.

WHAT A LIE!!!!!

It took so much convincing to get me to take this medication( After being on a MAOI)however I was constantly reassured it was safe and had no side-effects. After 11years of being numb and living in a fog I am determined to get off this poison once and for all. It is a nightmare to get off it, but one day I will.

GSK MUST BE MADE ACCOUNTABLE!!!!

I have been reading a lot of the post on this site. I am a little confused on one or two things and hope that someone could lead me in the right direction and answer a couple questions that I have. I am trying to find out if Paxil has known side effects of "hyper sexuality" and "lack of impulse control". I have read where "Glaxo" (the manufacturing co.) Has said that another drug "Requip" causes these symptoms. Due to reading some of the previous post in the forum, some of the users made comments about these side effects. So is Paxil (and the ingredents in paxil) linked to this drug "Requip". Is "Glaxo" saying that Paxil can cause these same side effects as "Requip"?? Does anyone know if they are linked together and if "Glaxo" is now made to add this information in the insert given at time of purchase. Thanks.

Paxil and requip are very different drugs, but do have "impulse control" as common side effects. Requip effects dopamine, paxil serotonin and dopamine. Some report hypersexuality with paxil, but that usually ends up with a loss of sexual function with continued use.
Glaxo doesn't say much about specific side effects...not good for marketing.

So your saying, if I understand you right, that the FDA has not told "Glasko" to add these side effects of "hyper sexuality" and "lack of impulse control" in the side effects such as they DID make them add it in the drug "Requip". This is very important for me to track all this down. It is very important to know if they have made them list this and if so when did they. I have looked all over the web with not much luck finding a drug insert on Paxil. I have hopes of knowing what the insert said in 2006 and what it says now. I wonder if I went to Pharmacy if they could get that information for me in 2006 versus what it says now. Any help on this from all users is greatly appreciated!

You're probably not going to find the "official" listing of MANY of the side effects of paxil in a drug insert. While we document these type of reactions based on real life experience, they are rarely officially noted. Suicidality took 13 years to get it "on the list".

Thanks for past replies. I am still at a loss here. I am trying to determine IF Paxil does have KNOWN side effects of "HYPERSEXUALITY" and "LACK OF IMPULSE CONTROL" I was wondering if they (GLASCO) knows this and IF there is documented findings that Paxil causes these symptoms. And #2 is this

oes Paxil make these problems worse by changing the chemical balance of seretonin and adamine such as the drug Requip has been shown to do. So lets say a normal person was put on Paxil, could this drug change his chemical balance to become "HYPERSEXUAL" and "LACK OF IMPULSE CONTROL" I am having a problem getting my questions answered properly. Any help would be very appreciated.

Officially, no. It is not part of the officially reported side effects of paxil.

Unofficially it's reported all the time by users, especially the impulsivity.

You're not going to find GSK admitting this side effect or documenting it.

Made 2 unsuccessful attempts to quit using doctor's tapering method (2wks@15, 2wks@10, 2wks@5, then off!). Did slower taper using liquid from June 2008-Jan 2009. Should have done it even slower though!
