Visit to Johns Hopkins Anxiety Clinic

http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/Psych...ty_clinic.html

I just wanted to post that I went to JHH's Anxiety Clinic on Tuesday. It was a three + hour long consultation. The first two hours a resident took my history. Then both the resident and the supervising psychiatrist consulted. It was an interesting experience. Even though they both said they did not have experience with protracted ssri w/d I felt that they believed what they were hearing from me. I had this feeling that the supervising doctor may have heard of it before; and now it was staring straight at him. He asked me questions, at length on the feelings/physical/mental sensations that I was experiencing. I really felt that he was trying to understand what was going on. They were very easy to talk to and I asked many questions regarding brain damage, receptors, anticholinergic rebound, adrenal glands and fight or flight. I liked both of them and felt that they were sincere. It reestablished some faith back into the medical field for me.

The positive that came out of this is that he emphatically assured me that this is not permanent. They said that there was a study done that does show the receptors do come back. (I should have asked for a reference, but I didn't.) He said that the brain is a remarkable organ, very powerful and will adjust back to where it should be and that it was just going to take time. At least for me, I came out of the meeting hoping that it was just another place some awareness had been planted. Hope this gives others some positive hope.

As good news as that sounds, let's remember he was trained the same way the so-called doctors were who gave us these damnable drugs to begin with. You know - "drugs are good, can't cause damage at all, no siree."

At least there are people in the medical field who are open to seeing this is real.

And they will see someone else and think twice about jumping to conclusions and adding other drugs. Good for you Hopeful!
