Let's become GSK shareholders?

Okay, first hear me out.

I'm not talking about buying a board lot (100 shares), but 1 share.

First, by being a shareholder, you are entitled to receive their annual report and management circular. Both suitable for lining birdcages and using as toilet paper should you run out.

Second, you would be entitled to attend and vote at annual meetings, most of which have an open-microphone Q & A session.

Third, I've noticed in some management circulars, beyond the standard resolutions to be voted upon (management compensation, choosing auditors, etc) "Rogue" shareholders add resolutions of their own. Any resolution we add to the circular would certainly be defeated, but it would be an embarassment to GSK, all taking place under the watchful eye of the business media.

Are there any lawyers among us who know how many shareholders are required to have a resolution added to a circular?

Just an idea...

Re: Let's become GSK shareholders?

Very interesting idea Scupper. I can imagine that their shares are mighty spendy. For me, while I understand the points you are making, I would not invest in their company when I'm feeling that my primary investment needs to be in my own health and wellness. It will be interesting to see what other responses you receive.

Re: Let's become GSK shareholders?

Point well taken Suze.

A share is in the 53 US$ dollar range plus whatever commission your brokerage charges for buying a single share. I'm tired of fighting from the outside. This way, as legitimate owners of the company (as disgusting as the thought of that is) we would have the opportunity to both spread our message and embarrass GSK using the corporate bureaucracy this time, instead of fighting against it.

Again, just an idea.

Re: Let's become GSK shareholders?

53 bucks? That a lot of bread and milk, even in Canada. *waving at you from the other side of the mountains in calgary*

I think that whatever we can do is what's best for us. Some will be active, vocal, LOUD....I think it was Mach/Debbie (was it you?) who called herself an armchair activist (love it). Others educate friends and family, while others are so completely involved in self-healing that there's not too much left to share around.

keep on doing what you're doing scupper. I believe we are all making a difference.

Re: Let's become GSK shareholders?

I made sure every bit of drug stock was removed from our portfolio.
I will never take blood money.
not even a single share.

do you really think they would give someone with one share floor time at a stockholder's meeting to discuss how crappy a product is??

Gosh, even thinking of having shares with GSK makes me feel dirty!! I see your point though, although I would bet you would need a lot of shares in order to have a say in anything.
