Someone in the medical field actually gets it!

I was just on the phone with my Dr.'s assistant, as I have my annual exam coming up, and we were speaking of the issue I'm having trying to stabilize back to 10 mg of Paxil. Well, here's a lady who understands! Her husband is curruntly going through Methedone withdrawal from a back injury and they've pretty much decided he's not going to ever get off of it (which makes me realize just how much worse I could have it.) Anyway, off I went on my GSK tangent and lo and behold, she tells me her nephew is a GSK rep in Sandusky (here in Ohio) She's actually going to ask him if there's any think GSK is presently working on to help people like us to get off of Paxil easier (HA!) But, the fact that she understands and agrees and is actually willing to give her nephew grief about it, is encouraging. She's going to call me back next week after she talks to him. She also said, and I quote, "I'm sure they're not going to do a damn thing to help people like you. They're too busy sailing their yachts." Here's a nurse practitioner, who just so happens to work for the dr. who prescribed me this crap in 97, just slamming the entire medical industry! It was so awesome! I just had to share!

Sweet!!! I think these drug companies need a swift kick in the profits anyway. They have to be giving these doctors a little kickback for every script they write. It's all about the Benjamins, not how their customers are suffering, and it's disgusting.

Re: Someone in the medical field actually gets it!

When I went to my Dr about a month ago to start weaning, he went on and on about how he's had many patients go off Paxil without a problem. He was just so condescending about the whole thing. After he left his nurse came into the room for a blood draw and asked me what I had decided to do. I told her I'm working with dr's schedule to wean off. She then told me that she had taken paxil and she weaned off and she had a tough time, but finally got thru it. She told me it is hard to do. She encouraged me to stay the course and call her if at anytime I feel I need to talk or receive encouragement or help. Two people working side by side - 2 different takes on Paxil. Hmmmm??? And who do I believe? I believe the one who spoke the truth!
