Protest in Ontario anyone?

Just wondering if anyone (esp those living near/in Ontario) have any interest in gathering together and protesting at GSK in Oakville Ontario? It could be planned for say September, along with the release of a certain movie.... Could be a worth while endeavor, GSK Oakville is plainly visible from one of the country's busiest highways!

Re: Protest in Ontario anyone?

GSK Oakville is in the perfect place!! I think it is a good idea, however if the $ permits I am heading to the US protest... need to meet up with some of the people from here. It is something I have wanted to do for a long time.

Re: Protest in Ontario anyone?

Thanks for the posts. It would be awesome to have a presence in as many places as possible, that's for sure. Let's keep the dialogue open and see if interest builds. My husband is willing to help, (he's just ended a career as a professional NFP fundraiser to play Mr Mom for the summer, so he knows tonnes about event organization and promotion). I wonder if Michael Moore is coming to Ontario for the premiere of his movie. Can you imagine if he came to the protest? A pipe dream I'm sure, but you never know. Let's keep it in mind!

Re: Protest in Ontario anyone?

Hi, I am still here almost 1 year after quitting paxil, I have been through it all in the last 11 months and have been sustained by looking in on paxilprogress on a regular basis, I do not partake often but have gained much knowledge and insight from the dedicated regulars...Thanks to All...I live in Ontario and will gladly participate in a protest in Toronto.....This is a great idea as I feel that it is the only way our health care professionals will listen to those of us who have suffered greatly at the hands of the GSK etc. in the name of profit. I am tired of my voice not being heard, I want everyone to know the damage that these drugs can cause....and the more voices there are the louder we speak. I am pleading to all in Ontario, canada and whereever you are to consider this an opportunity to be heard!!! Please contact me if there is anything I can do to help.

Re: Protest in Ontario anyone?

I can't plan that far in advance, but would love to attend one of them. A protest in Ontario is cheaper for me to fly to. I'm very interested in both of them, but with withdrawal and business, I can't say definitely. Keep the thread going and see what happens. It is a very good cause.

Re: Protest in Ontario anyone?

Hey everyone, I have goosebumps reading your posts. I am so sick (no pun intended) of not having my voice heard too! Our stories need to be told or better yet shouted from the rooftops. I will be in school FT for the summer, but I will make time for something like this and I know my family will be there to help too. It definitely is possible, so let's build on it. Come on everyone, let's plan!!!

Re: Protest in Ontario anyone?

Oakville isn't to far from where I live, but I'm flipping between the US and here only because I'd like to meet some of the PP people I've met online here.

Keep me posted in any event.

Count me in as well and I know just the right people to approach for support on this. Btw I had always heard GSK was in Mississauga, where in Oakville is it?

Re: Protest in Ontario anyone?

If there is one in Mississauga, that would be closer for me, but it doesn't matter where the final destination is, I'll be there.

Just looked it up on the map, GSK is right on the border of Oakville/Mississauga at the QEW, hope that helps.

Re: Protest in Ontario anyone?

Yes, GSk is practically in Mississauga, right along the QEW, nice and visible from the highway. When I get some time (soon I hope) I want to scope it out and see what's available in terms of space and set-up. I'm so happy this thread is still kicking!

Re: Protest in Ontario anyone?

you know its too bad we couldnt have done something this weekend. Just found out the American Psychatric Association is having their big convention in Toronto at the Convention centre. Thousand of psychiatrists from around the world attending this. What a missed opportunity!

Re: Protest in Ontario anyone?

I don't think so Gerry. I don't think directing the focus to psychiatry is the way to go, imo. I think the focus needs to remain on gsk. Once you go after psychiatry you are grouped with organizations like cchr. Even though they have done some wonderful things for awareness, there is much negativity that goes along with it. I think the protests would lose credibility if the focus changed to psychiatry. Well, thats my opinion LOL
