No one really wants me to do this
Hi:
I called my psychiatrist today (it's Sunday) out of desperation. I explained once again what is going on and he has agreed that I increase my paxil (to 7 mgs) I say 8 tomorrow. He didn't want to start today as I think I am still having a reaction to the St. John's Wort and the Neuroplete the natuopath prescribed 4 days ago. Took it for two days and ears were ringing again (still are) and I am still quite shaky which I attribute to this. When I called him to say that the internet was flooded with warnings about not taking St. John's Wort during paxil withdrawal he replied to trust him these people were self medicating he knew what he was doing. My sister called to tell me what a huge mistake I am making and that she doesn't support me. And I had better beware of the repercussions of upping the dose of a drug that wasn't helping me only to drag the weaning period out longer. As if I haven't thought of this. If it doesn't help with this depression, I'm hooped. Have tried reducing the seroquel only to discover and can't go without that either. I wasn't on any before I went to the hospital but that is how they were treating my serious complaints instead of slowing down or considering what was really going on. Anyways I just feel like my life is in ruins. My husband just gets frustrated at me, my psychiatrist, well I don't really feel that he is on board or is really experienced in drug withdrawal. Would really like to find someone with real understanding to help counsel me. janek

if you're used to being on chemical drugs you can't expect st. johns to do much for you.. it's mild in comparison. I tried it after i got off paxil and it messed me up so that i wound up on a small dose of lexapro.

Re: No one really wants me to do this
St Johns Wart also effects serotonin although maybe not to the extent of the Paxil. There is always a danger when combining drugs that do this of developing Serotonin Syndrome. Not something you want to do.
Are all of the other drugs prescribed to treat the Paxil Side Effects? If you've already told me I'm sorry but I've forgotten.

Re: No one really wants me to do this
There is really only one person who can make the decision to lead yourself out of this - you.
It is very, very dangerous to be using any supplements that affect serotonin. In my opinion this site has the most concentrated bit of knowledge on Paxil withdrawal anywhere. Many have succeeded before you and you can as well, but you must be very dedicated to following a precise plan and giving it the time to work. There are no shortcuts. It is going in the opposite direction of withdrawal to do anything that either ups and downs your dose or mixes more than one drug to get off of. The best thing you can do right now is educate yourself; everyone here had to do that. The people on this board can only guide you, but you have to make the decision to follow the guidance and also start learning about your health. While no naturopath has even a fraction of the experience on this site, it's also true that even we can't know how your body, mind, and soul are reacting to a wise plan - even though it is a wise plan. You have to be the one to take responsibility. If you are willing to do so, you can get through this and come out the other side a drug free person - free to create your life. But it is first important to know that you can create your life right this minute, and the next minute, and the minute after that. Sometimes withdrawal goes minute by minute. If you want inspration, start clicking on names in the Advanced Search function and follow someone's story. It may be scary, but facing that fear will let you see that people do come through it and they do suceed. Also, try to educate yourself about how SSRIs actually work. Upping and downing a dose is very brutalizing to the brain. Gentle spiritual, physical, and emotional healing using a tried and true method of withdrawl is the way to succeed. Many success stories prove it. Read Scott's posts for inspiration for persistence. Read Darcyb's posts in Anyone Seen Positive Results from Paxil? thread down below for insight into how you, not anything else or anyone else, is in control. Read Shea Carney's posts for inspiration on how to keep going when it all looks like it's for nothing. Read Dar's posts for an inspiring story of how someone is willing to research everything about how the body heals itself naturally. Read Bab's story for a true profile in courage. There are many heroes on this site and you are on your way to being one as well. In the future, it will be you giving back to this site and letting others know that the power to succeed is in their control and no one elses's if they follow a wise withdrawal plan that nurtures them physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Even for a few minutes today start mapping out a wise withdrawal plan and think of yourself as one of these heroes.

Re: No one really wants me to do this
Janek, how long have you been on 5 mg? Speaking from my own experience, once I got to 10 mg, my doc recommended I go down by 1 or 2 mg each time and stay there for a while. This is where the liquid really comes in handy. The hardest part of the withdrawal was after I got below 5 mg. This is where I wished I had taken my time and maybe even dropped 1/2 mg at a time until 0.
