Lamictal anyone? Withdrawal problems?
Just wondering if anyone knows if there are any problems with withdrawal symptoms with lamictal. I just dont want to get anal raped like paxil did to me trying to come off it. I know there are risks of a rash but I have had no problems but I dont know if withdrawal will do it. I want to come off it cold turkey. Thanks anyone.

Re: Lamictal anyone? Withdrawal problems?
I don't know anything about withdrawing from Lamictal but I would suggest that caution might be a good thing. If it were me I'd try to taper but at what speed I don't know. Isn't this an anti seizure medication they sometimes use as a mood stabilizer?

Re: Lamictal anyone? Withdrawal problems?
I came off of it with no problems after being on it for 2 months. I was put on it because they misdiagnosed me with bipolar. (((stupid people))) The reason why I was misdiagnosed with bipolar was because paxil withdrawal symptoms mimic bipolar. But after being on a small dose on it for about 2 months, I had no problems coming off.

Re: Lamictal anyone? Withdrawal problems?
"Withdrawal Seizures: As with other AEDs, LAMICTAL should not be abruptly discontinued. In patients with epilepsy there is a possibility of increasing seizure frequency. In clinical trials in patients with Bipolar Disorder, 2 patients experienced seizures shortly after abrupt withdrawal of LAMICTAL. However, there were confounding factors that may have contributed to the occurrence of seizures in these bipolar patients. Unless safety concerns require a more rapid withdrawal, the dose of LAMICTAL should be tapered over a period of at least 2 weeks

Re: Lamictal anyone? Withdrawal problems?
In my opinion there is no psychiatric drug that is safe to cold turkey off of.

For some reason when I word Lamictal, it makes me think of that commercial with John Madden, where he is advertising for Tough Acting Tanactin. BOOM! just my thoughts

Re: Lamictal anyone? Withdrawal problems?
thanks scotty for the technical info about seizures. The thing that is strange is that they put me on Lamictal to reduce the paxil withdrawal symptoms. I hate using the word symptoms cause it makes me feel like the **** I suffer from is just a little side note to something, when in reality it is the cause of my problems. It's also funny that Glaxo makes the drug they now use to reduce problems that another one of thier drug caused me. Irony. Bern, you know what I mean. Prescribing more meds for symptoms caused from another drug.. fun little cycle. That is why i want to get off lamictal. That and what I read recently, basically that they don't know how it works. I think I am going to continue its use for a while longer because I guess it is helping in a little way. Either that, or the paxil withdrawal lets up a little more after each drop and therefore I feel better. I would like to believe the ladder. Thanks guys!

Re: Lamictal anyone? Withdrawal problems?
I tried Lamictal for a week before I started weaning from Paxil. I was at 12.5 cr at the time. Within 3 days I felt extremely down, and by the 7th day I called the doc. He told me to go off it - it was obviously causing depressive symptoms. After two days off of Lamictal, the sadness lifted, and I didn't notice any negative effects or withdrawal. Nothing like the Paxil withdrawal that came later.

Re: Lamictal anyone? Withdrawal problems?
I was on Lamictal for over a year and felt great for about 3 months on it. Then I became irritated and pissed all the time. I also got head aches everyday. Granted I am a head case and am working on alot but I finally made up my mind to end my use of it. I came off of it by decreasing every week; I of course went faster than I told my doctor but I still tappered off and it was awful. I was cycling fast though out the day and I was really scared becuz my paranoia came back full force. I stuck it out though and have just this week started feeling better. It took about a month!!!

Re: Lamictal anyone? Withdrawal problems?
I quit Lamictal (100mg) cold-turkey earlier this month. I've had no problems whatsoever.
