gastric bypass and paxil use

My mom told me tonight that she had been talking to a teacher at her school about health stuff. This woman had gastric bypass a few years ago, lost the weight, and is now regaining much of it. She was talking about how she would get so freaked out and anxious when she traveled, but that her doc had put her on Paxil CR and that it was just a miracle drug. My mom gasped audibly. She told this teacher that paxil will cause you to gain tons of weight. She said this woman looked at her like, I do not want to hear that! And that was the end of the conversation. But, she planted the seed. Of course, I told her, "Why didn't you just write paxilprogress.org on a paper and invite her to come read?"

Yes, particularly because she had the surgery because she was diabetic. She initially wasn't even the required 100 pounds overweight. We have a surgeon here in town whose office is a gastric bypass factory. And teachers in particular are getting it left and right because the district's policy covers it. I'm mad about the PA (not even a doc) who let her walk out of the office with this prescription knowing this history. More proof that they are all clueless! But then to allow yourself to be in THAT much denial. . .that's unacceptable.

We just had a new member, Maine Missy, I believe, who said she'd had g/b and has gained a bunch of weight back since taking Paxil. She only posted for about a week or so.

The weight gain paxil causes could kill this woman!! __________________ 95' - started paxil, 20 mgs; up to 30. two ct's, then 60 mgs for years. 40 mgs in '02, poop-out in '05 start taper= 5/8/06 at 20 = 6/17/06 at 15 = 8/8/06 at 10 = 10/15/06 at 5 = 12/14/06 Paxil free as of 3/8/08 (drops were done gradually - not from 20 to 15 and so on) Smoke-free as of 2/27/08 Still doing well, no smoking yet and I haven't been hospitalized - 10/2/09 "You, however, smear me with lies; you are worthless physicians, all of you!"
