Interesting E-mail

As you know, I'm planning on using the label me sane product to wean. Yes, it's expensive. Yes, I realize there are probably cheaper alternatives, but this is what makes me comfortable right now. Anyhoo....I've been in touch with the co-founder of the site/products and she has a book out called Deeds of Trust, which tells her journey through hell and back on these drugs. This is what she sent me regarding her trip to NYC and I think it's wonderful news and potentially, with everything Laurie is doing here, can bust this whole thing wide open!

NY was absolutely fabulous - god I love that city. But
it was incredibly exhausting as we met with about 75
producers for television, magazines and radio. But,
the exciting news is that 20/20, The View and The
Today Show are all interested in booking me for Deeds
of Trust - can you believe that!

It was amazing as they each had their own story of
someone they loved or interviewed that was on the
drugs and truly suffered. So the timing couldn't have
been better.

Re: Interesting E-mail

Absolutely, Homer! She's wanting to get the word out about these horrible drugs, in general, and how they're over prescribed, etc. I believe timing is everything too and with what's been going on as of late, it's perfect timing!

However, I did tell her I was worried about The View, as Rosie is a big fan of ADs.

What about Oprah? Seems like she would be all over this.

No, she's in Chicago, but this person could still approach her, couldn't she? It would be such a huge platform. And surely she'll have huge cred after being on 20/20, Today, etc.

Oh, I'm sure she'll approach Oprah if/when any of this goes through.

No, I haven't read it. It's fairly new out, but I have read the reviews, and it's gotten really good reviews. I'll get a free copy of it when I place my order.

Yeah, I'm sure Dr. Phil would be a hard sell regarding this subject.

I remember reading about it on the website. I'm going to go back there again and check it out. It sounded interesting.

Thanks, Rita! I'm nervous, but very hopeful. The last taper is still pretty fresh in my mind and I don't ever want to feel that sick again. I can take the mild w/d symptoms, but not THAT!

I don't watch Oprah either and personally, I can't stand Dr. Phil. I like Ellen much better.

Re: Interesting E-mail

This is the response I got when I told her Rosie was a big fan of ADs.

That is interesting with Rosie - hmm, this could be a fascinating interview. I was on a huge radio show in NY where the host was so contentious and accusatory. He actually said on the air that a good chunk of their advertising dollars is from the manufacturers of Lunesta. I responded by saying we have many of those people now that are suffering trying to get off the drug. I thought he was going to slug me - I just kept my smile on and was ready to do battle. I am not at a loss for words when I'm mad, thank god.

Me, too, but she's all about entertainment. Doesn't take on the issues like other shows do.

OMG, I'm so glad I didn't get hooked on that stuff, too! Twice was enough to convince me that it was real bad news.

Exactly. And my point in posting all of this, obviously, is to let everyone know we're not alone in this fight. It's nice to know there are others out there striving for the same things we are.

Re: Interesting E-mail

It's so frightening to realize how cavalierly these new drugs are being prescribed when nobody knows the long-term effects. Mark my words, there's going to be a massive health-care crisis, maybe even one to rival obesity, when large numbers of people start trying to come off them a few years down the road. What we're seeing here on PP is just the tip of the iceberg.

Speaking of side effects of new drugs, my mom told me about a man who wrote in to some forum the other day wanting to know what to do about the fact that he temporarily loses vision in one eye while taking Viagra. Hey, who cares if you go blind, right, so long as you can get it up?

Where does it end???
