Tylonal PM?

Hi!

Does anyone take this? I was reading though a sheet that my OB gave me, and it turns out that this is one of the very few safe medications to take in pregnancy. Anyway... I thought it may help me maybe actually get some sleep tonight.

Thanks!

Re: Tylonal PM?

I took it years ago and personally I didn't like it for sleep because I felt groggy the next morning. I would surely give it a try if I were you if nothing else works because you do need to get some sleep. If you take it you might try breaking the tablet in half and see if that works before taking a whole one.

Re: Tylonal PM?

I also take it, not regularly, but when I had my breakdown I could not sleep, so I would pop one tylenol pm. It does make you groggy the next morning if you don't give yourself at least 7-8 hours time to sleep. I used to take it about an hour before I wanted to fall asleep.

Re: Tylonal PM?

I take Advil PM - no grogginess and morning-after tiredness.

Re: Tylonal PM?

I've used it, and also Advil PM. I think they both have the same "sleep" ingredient, which is exactly the same thing found in benadryl. I do tend to be a bit groggy the next morning but for a good night's sleep it's worth it.

Re: Tylonal PM?

Pregnant ladies cannot take Advil. If you only need the sleep component and have no pain or fever, skip the tylenol and take a benedryl. That is the sleep component in the Tylenol PM. Why take something extra?

Re: Tylonal PM?

kim's right -- and hunting down the generic (diphenhydramine HCL) makes it even cheaper.

Re: Tylonal PM?

W2q as I wrote in your other post I too could not sleep in the worst possible way when I was pregnant and in withdrawal. I researched extensively (sleepless nights!) and found out Unisome. It is another antihistamine like benadryl but has a better safety profile than benadryl. There has been a lot of state sponsered research on its use in pregnancy, specially first trimester, out of Australia and the Uk and it has been found to be safe. I have taken both benadryl and unisome and I found that U. leaves my system cleanly in the morning and I am not groggy. However in my worst phase nothing got me sleep. Unisom made me drowsy for a few hours.

How are you feeling today? I hope you are feeling better. My best guess is that by the end of the first trimester you will feel a lot better as your hormones even out. You will also have high levels of estrogen which increases both seratonin and seratonin receptors and will compensate for the down regulation of seratonin receptors which creates so much of our pain in withdrawal.

Re: Tylonal PM?

Unisom has the same active ingrediant as Tyenol PM. It's all benadryl(diphenhydramine hydrochloride)
