poured out the vodka

I took another step towards living healthier and better. I poured the rest of my beloved vodka down the kitchen sink. It was tough to do - that stuff is not cheap and it has been a crutch for me. I have decided that I need to start actually dealing with my feelings and stop "numbing" myself with alcohol. Wish me luck !

I go to see my lawyer tomorrow in OKC and while we are up there I am going to find a health food store and buy some decent food too. Things will never get better if I just keep making them worse.

Re: poured out the vodka

GREAT decision!!! While the situation is horrible, adding alcohol isn't going to help. Taking it on with a clear head is critical!!

Re: poured out the vodka

Do you have a regular drinking habit? If you drink more than two or three drinks every single day, then stopping cold turkey could be dangerous. Alcohol dependence is nothing to mess around with. Of all of the addictions, it is the one that I think most needs to be treated with in-patient rehab because of potential serious medical issues while detoxing.

Re: poured out the vodka

It wasnt an every day or even every other day thing. It was more like a Friday night thing. After the kids would go to bed I would have a few drinks. It doesnt take me much to get me drunk so a bottle of vodka would last me for about a month. However, my husband was noticing that I would say things like " I can't wait until Friday so I can get drunk" - not a healthy way to deal with things. I kept the bloody mary mix though - I will just have to drink it the "virgin way".

thank you so much for your words of encouragement

Re: poured out the vodka

Then dumping it before it became an "I can't wait until 4pm everyday" thing is an excellent idea! Good luck to you!
