The real deal flu is awful. You get a high fever that hits you FAST! Your body is so achy you can't hardly move and you have a very deep chest cough. I've had it one time in my life (five years ago) and I was sick, sick, sick for about 10 days. The fever to me was the worst!

To me, the Paxhell flu felt the same, sans the cough, and not as high of fever but I still felt awful.

Focus your attention on the here and now. Recognize it for what it is: the one moment of the only life you will ever have that you truly possess. Rare is the individual who has come to completely accept that the past is no more than a memory and the future an assumption about unborn events.

Yep, like Lisa said, it hits very fast, you have a very high fever, terrible body aches. And, it is 'dry,' not snotty. (Sorry) If you have the real flu, you can go to the doc during day one, anti-virals can shorten the duration and severity of the flu.

Re: What does the flu feel like?

Thanks to all.

I ask because my husband has had a headache (not excrutiating) since Saturday late late night, body aches, some chill, no fever, and a slight cough. Today, he woke up to a very raw throat. He just called me and the doctor said it was a very bad cold with flu-like symptoms and not the real flu because he doesn't have any kind of high fever, no vomiting, no nausea, no extreme fatigue etc. This morning I woke up with a throat that is kind of bugging me, nasal congestion and a bit of a sore ear. I have upped the Vitamin C intake and have added in garlic for me and the kids (yes, you can smell us a mile away). I have heard anecdotally that zinc lozenges can help - has anybody else heard about this?

Re: What does the flu feel like?

zinc is good.. make sure he's on vitamin c also.. like 2000mg a day spread out. Your body will dump what it doesn't use unless it's taken throughout the day.. or time released.

Re: What does the flu feel like?

Flu doesn't necessarily mean nausea or vomiting. That's a totally different flu altogether.

Re: What does the flu feel like?

You are right - the true flu generally does not have vomiting and diarrhea, although it sometimes can (especially in children). Apparantly though, it does come with a sudden and high fever that is unmistakable.

I have been loading up on orange juice and garlic as I am now not feeling great. I am thinking of trying his zinc lozenges.

This will be my 3rd cold in 6 months. Hmph!

Yep, got his germs alright. Woke up in the night during a fitful sleep with a sore throat and nose and ear congestion. Maybe the vitamin C (tons of orange juice and water with fresh lemon juice) and garlic will help with the duration of this thing. (I hope)

Re: What does the flu feel like?

You're doing the right things. By taking the C, zinc, and lots of rest and liquids, you'll beat this in no time!
