Should This Be Pursued

I am an epileptic, (and to explain my luck in life, it is adult onset epilepsy ON MY 25TH BIRTHDAY). After a few visits to my neurologist, I mention the fact I have ADHD. This was to bring up questions of possibly the ability to trace such a disorder through MRI or CT. Fresh out of medical school, she whips out the prescription pad and says there is no such a disorder, I have an anxiety issue. There was no diagnostic process and here I am on Paxil. (The final straw with this neurologist was when she almost kills me by way of heart failure, during an overdose of my anticonvulsant medication. She tells me to continue at the dose which put me in the ER)
I do not understand how she could make the decision to put me on this med, with no prior diagnostic. Now to this day, my wife is going to divorce me, and I cannot hold down a job because of the withdrawal symptoms (in addition to my seizures). I am with a better neurologist now, and he practically had to super-glue his jaw back on after I related this story to him. However, he would not offer me any information as to how I need to resolve this issue.

Re: Should This Be Pursued

Welcome, Mique! I'm heartbroken to read your post. How long have you been on Paxil and at what dose? Did you quit cold turkey?

Another doctor won't "rat out" another doctor. If you feel there was real negligence (especially with the OD) I'd seek out an attorney.

Re: Should This Be Pursued

That doctor's recommendation of Paxil, sadly, is similar to a lot of experiences here -- certainly mine with my doc. And that's the sad thing about this medication. There is no test to determine that so-called chemical imbalance. If there were I doubt this medication would have been prescribed for over 90 percent of the people who are on it.

The way to deal with doctors these days is to question a lot -- thank God we have the internet for this.

Report it to the state board. They'll do follow up. Just be sure you have a copy of all your medical records from her BEFORE you submit your report.
