cold turkeying

i think i'm gonna do it tonight

i'm on 5mg of cipralex(lexapro)

i'm starting to have that derealization feeling, and i'm confident in my ability to manage panic attacks on my own.

i desperatly want to be off meds.

the last time when i went off paxil i was feeling better in a month.

wish me luck, any suggestions are MORE then welcome.

Re: cold turkeying

Why not 2.5 for a few weeks? Why make such a drastic drop? I know you want off - hell, so do I, and I'm on FOUR mgs. But why not two more weeks on 2.5?

Re: cold turkeying

yikes..you have to taper..it took me almost a year to do it..i went like a snail..just cut the 10 in half..then each of those halves in half..then chisel away from there..i know its frustrating..but get a super sharp thin knife or pill cutter..it will work!!

Re: cold turkeying

hi laurie! it's totally possible to quarter your pills with a pill cutter. just cut your halves in half to achieve that 2.5 -- granted, they might not be incredibly accurate, but you can do a bunch at a time and line them up from biggest to smallest.

I'm glad your rethinking it. I would sure rather be safe than sorry! Why go through anything bad that might come up if you don't have to. Take the time and do it right. Don't get impatient! You will get there.

Re: cold turkeying

My doc says the same, that there isn't anything smaller than 10 mg. I am still at 5 mg of Paxil. I kind of feel stuck, I have reservations about going any lower. The last few weeks have been trying for me. wd symptoms. But anyway I use a pill splitter and it works great for me. It is better to go at a slow pace than to go cold turkey and end up back on this stuff.

If it comes in those doses why would my doc tell me it doesnt? *sigh*

Just shows what docs really know. hehe.

For now i have lots of 10. I think i'm going to see my doc this friday, asses what she says and go from there. I know in respect to getting off she will tell me to most likely stop taking it one day, and take it the next or something. She doesn't know I didn't even bump up to 10mg.

Paxil's lowest dose is 10mg, unless you go liquid.

Re: cold turkeying

From rxlist:

LEXAPRO tablets are film coated, round tablets containing escitalopram oxalate in strengths equivalent to 5 mg, 10 mg and 20 mg escitalopram base. The 10 and 20 mg tablets are scored. The tablets also contain the following inactive ingredients: talc, croscarmellose sodium, microcrystalline cellulose/colloidal silicon dioxide, and magnesium stearate. The film coating contains hypromellose, titanium dioxide, and polyethylene glycol.

Re: cold turkeying

hmmm.

we'll see what happens. i wonder if she would perscribe me liquid. the cost isn't an issue cuz i'm fully covered, but i feel like she might then i'm nutso to want to wean without even tryign to just go off.

i'm 99% sure i will have some sort of issue with withdrawl as the other day when i cut my pill(i was at my bf's hosue and he had dull scissors) i took the smaller half and felt weird the next day. not bad just a little off. so i'd rather wean over a few weeks.

i kick myself now for ending up back on meds again after my first stint with paxil. just say NO.

What ever happens don't go every other day I did that with advice from my doctor and I am still trying to get past the horribleness of it .It was pure I hell know I keep repeating this to the threads but I was great on 10 mg prozac for about three months than the doctor recommended the every other day and it again I repeat it was pure hell. For your own sake try not to do that.
And what you said" but i feel like she might then i'm nutso to want to wean without even tryign to just go off." I thinkl she is nutso to advise that!~
