Why Does This Happen

Hi All,

Maybe someone can answer my question.

I've noticed that my anxiety and thoughts in my head are worst in the mornings then kind of level off around late afternoon.

By night time I feel like my old self. What is up with that?

Why is my anxiety worst in the mornings then seem to taper off in the afternoon?

Could this be my diet? I eat breakfast and usually will have eggs and toast?

Does anyone else experience this? Thanks Kalo!

Re: Why Does This Happen

I had this too and here is what I discovered...

in the morning as I woke, i knew I had a full day ahead of me, a day to dread the what if's...and at night I knew sleep was coming and in sleep came the comfort of knowing that I would not have to deal with anything but my dreams

Re: Why Does This Happen

Kalo, I experience the same thing. I have anxiety every single morning no matter what paxil dosage I'm on. I have no idea what it's about.

Homer, what you are saying makes sense. Maybe that's the reason for our anxiety. It makes a lot of sense.

..so I embrace the 'what ifs' now...i dont ignore them..I answer them..either with logical responses or with opposite 'what ifs' - this I learned here from either Summerbbee or Terrap...so when I here myself say

"what if I phone that customer and he gets mad at me"...I replace it with "what if I phone that customer and he invites me in to quote on his machinery needs"

Re: Why Does This Happen

Mornings are the hardest for us all. Even for morning people like me. I'm sure you've read more people have heart attacks in the morning. It's a time we all push ourselves to get going.
Sleeping is our down time. If we compare our bodies with a car, it was in park all night, shut off. Now we turn it on and fire everything up in seconds. That's why it's not good to jump right out of bed. Stretch a little, tell yourself it's going to be a good day. Some people have electric starters to warm up their cars. Warm up your body.
I don't even like to sit at the kitchen table in the morning. The chairs hard and the light to bright. Give yourself some extra time in the morning to sipping your morning coffee in a comfey chair with a soft blanket. Ease into the day slow just like you easy out of it at night. Whitecat.

Re: Why Does This Happen

Thanks for all your replies!!

I wonder if the chemicals in our brain change overnight or if this also has to do with the foods we eat i.e. dinner.

It makes sense that we dread the "what if's" of the day, however, what is weird with me is whatever bothers me in the morning the same "what if's" don't bother me as much in the night.

Meaning the same thoughts that bother me in the morning, I can think the same question and I say "so what"....

I feel like my old self at night...

Thanks again for the replies!!!

Kalo--
Same here. By lunch time my anxiety levels goes way down. I think the otters are right--just waking up, thinking I have to face another day of anxiety makes me anxious all by itself. I've been trying to to just let the feeling come and pass me by--that makes me feel a little better.

Re: Why Does This Happen

Kalo,
Morning anxiety is VERY common in withdrawal and recovery. It has to do with cortisol being either higher or lower (can't remember which) in the morning and then leveling out as the day goes on. I think Summer knows more about this. I don't believe what you eat for dinner has much to do with it, but as always, you are doing the best thing for your body by eating healthy; staying away from sugar and refined carbs.

Re: Why Does This Happen

I have had morning anxiety for some time now, about two months or so, and although it has not gone completely it does seem to have eased up a lot. I agree with what Homer says. I find that if you get up out of bed soon after waking it helps cause you don't lie there dwelling too much.
