Long Term Disability

Hi yall,

I have private long-term disability insurance that I paid for myself for over 10 years ( from Cigna ). When I became debilitated beyond belief from withdrawal and couldn't work anymore, I applied for it. I based my claim on depression/anxiety and agoraphobia because I knew they would not recognize withdrawal as a legitimate disability. Despite having no-work letters from three different doctors, Cigna still denied my claim...TWICE.

So, upon advice from several people, I hired a lawyer to appeal for me. Today he told me that Cigna will not approve my claim and that we ( he and I ) are filing a lawsuit against them and will take it to court.

He is one of those contingency lawyers....won't get paid unless I win. Then he gets 40%, which is fine with me because I want those !@@#$$% to have to pay. Frankly I don't care if he gets it all as long as Cigna has to cough up some money for being stingy and criminal.

Cigna actually told me if I have depression/anxiety/agoraphobia, that I would be ok if I simply changed careers. I have a masters degree, and they suggested I look for a job where I can get basic on the job training in a few hours ( McDonald's??? ). How insulting. And what part of agoraphobia don't they understand? They said their "board cerified psychiatrist" read my medical records and determined I am not too sick to work ( my records say otherwise, and I have three no-work letters from my doctors ). I suffer day in and day out and at 1 year off...I still feel like I may die from this.

Anyway...has anyone else here ever had anything similar with insurance companies and lawsuits? Is this worth the effort?

Linda

Before I filed a lawsuit (if it's not to late) I would contact your state insurance commission and consider filing a complaint. They have the power to say pay up sucker and you would get all of your money.

Re: Long Term Disability

Really? I didn't know that. I thought they mainly handled home and car insurance issues. Duh !

See how much I know? I've never sued anybody in my life and never thought I'd have to.

On another note.....wanna hear something weird?
About 12 years ago, I had my palm read by an old man from India. I never believed in that stuff and just did it for fun because he was in our bank and reading everybody else's. When he got to me, his eyes shot up to mine and he said, "ooohhhhh....you will be very sick or have an accident in your late
30's, but you will be ok. You will also be very wealthy". I only focused on the very wealthy part thinking I was going to win the lottery. I got SSRI and benzo sick when I was 38, and now this lawyer wants to files a lawsuit.

Pay Up Cigna

Yup, we've used them for medical insurance problems before. Worked great!

Oh, I've decided to win the lottery this year myself. Just as soon as I get a ticket.

I Will Get My Life Back?

You'll get it back! A little bit at a time. Then one day you'll look around and realize it's all there and better than ever.
