The best news
I was so excited i have to share this with everyone.
Today i went to the pharmacy, and asked if he could try and order me some 10mg paxil. He said it only comes in 20mg (i new this already) So then i asked if he would make me up some liquid paxil. He asked why and i said i was tapering. He then said "you know paxil is easy to get off it only has a short half like so you should be right dont worry about it" Well i ripped through him. I went off. I told him i had been trying to get off it for years and have been so sick. he was shocked. I told him everything ive tried and what ive been through and he couldnt believe it. He then said how bout you switch to another SSRI, i got even angrier. i could feel the steam coming oout my ears as i told him i have tried that (lexapro) and still got w/d. He went on to suggest other SSRI's to try and i said no no no i dont want another, i want off. He then said maybe i have an allergy to SSRI's. WHAT A BLOODY JOKE. he said maybe i have a really rare allergy type reaction. I just laughed. Anyway i hastled him for like 30mins. Until he rang GSK for advice and they said he can make it into liquid paxil for me. He can mix it in his pharmacy room and make me up a batch. He is doing it this week I was so excited i started crying. Made my day. Its the best thing

Re: The best news
That's GREAT news! The liquid makes it much easier to measure those smaller doses.

Re: The best news
That poor pharmacist had no idea what was comming to him!!
I am angry that as a pharmacist, who makes and distributes these drugs. he should know better. He took a bit of convincing, and even though he has agreed to do it, im not sure if he is totally convinced about the w/d. But hey aslong as he makes it for me i dont care. I told him i would pay anything, i didnt care as long as i got it!!

Re: The best news
As frustrating as it must have been, the out come was great!! Some pharmacists are good, others not. I remember being told "you took your daughter off her paxil, what a sin!". I could have smacked her face!

Re: The best news
You stuck up for yourself and got the pharmacist to listen! Way to go. You had to fight for what you needed but in the end you got it! I'm proud of you. Having that kind of patience in w/d and being able to state the facts and stand behind them, you rock!

Re: The best news
That's awesome. It's unbelievalbe that so many people in the pharm and medical profession are "in the dark" about this and other medications.

Re: The best news
Wow. I had a pharmacist that totally knew what was going on. She felt really bad for my situation. She empathized and said she knew I had a bumpy road ahead of me.

Re: The best news
Well maybe for future reference this pharmacist may help someone else thanks to me. So thats good. It is surprising that people who go to uni to learn all about medications could be so in the dark, but then again so many people know so little about this. At least now i can taper better and slower. So excited

Re: The best news
They have 10mg pills, they dont have them there? I was taking them when I was weaning from 20 because when I got to 10 I didnt want to keep cutting because cutting up the pills that way I kept getting different amounts and it was screwing with me

Re: The best news
I make a habit of having a copy of Glenmullen's preface of his book with me and the appendix with a whole page of W/D symptoms on it. I pass it to people when they are in a position they should be informed (docs, nurses, therapists, pharmacists, parent's with kids on SSRIs, H.S. principal, etc.) You can get it off the net (not the list.) I'm sure your pharmacist will not soon forget his encounter with you! Good work!
