Help!
I have been meeting with my conselour for a couple weeks to deal with some deppresion issues I have been having. She suggested that I talk to a physician in order to take some anit-deppresants and i was prescribed PAXIL. I have been taking 20mg for three days now and i feel like absolute **** (physically) to be honest and i am thinking about quiting them already. I cant contact my physician until next tuesday do you think it would be an issue if i stopped taking them right now.

Re: Help!
Not an issue at all... stop taking them, it's only been three days.
Thank goodness you found this site, tons of stuff on all ssri's, just google and you will see lots of suffering. Your therapist should be able to work with you without the meds, the meds should be used last resort after all other avenues have been tried. If the therapist isn't willing to do this, find another one. The medications make their job easier, the medication is altering your brain, down the road when you go to get off them, or they poop out on you, the result is usually much worse than your original symptoms. Take care.

Re: Help!
Welcome to PP, GuitarGuy.
Definitely, with only three days' use, you can just stop taking the Paxhell. I agree with Rita--if your counselor continues to push you to take medication, especially this early in the therapy process, find another one. Read around on this site. You'll see that most of us were told we had an imbalance in brain chemicals which the Paxhell ( or other SSRI) would correct. We were told we could take this drug for the rest of our lives, "like a diabetic takes their insulin." The sad part is, WE BELIEVED THEM! If we'd only known then what we know now. I consider myself a relatively intelligent person--why in heaven's name did I not think to ask "Where's the test/proof that shows I have a chemical imbalance?" (None exists--it can't currently be tested or proven.) Why didn't I try every other avenue first--diet, exercise, talk therapy, supplements, herbals, etc--everything else? duh Again, I say, if I'd only known then what I know now. Maybe you should consider yourself fortunate that the Paxhell made you feel so crappy right from the beginning, so you quit before it gets you fully in its grip. Margaret

Re: Help!
Yes thats completely what i was told as well. It seemed really disconcerning how she wanted to push me into these drugs actually.
"Where's the test/proof that shows I have a chemical imbalance?" This statment also means alot to, i have been asking myself this one to. |

Re: Help!
Welcome, Guitarguy! You're doing the right thing by ditching this awful drug. If you have a problem, there are much safer, more natural ways of dealing with it. ADs aren't the answer!
