this is how I THINK I'm gonna quit.

I've been wrestling with the last day of paxil since I started it! Thought I'd write this, and see what kinds of opinions I'd get.

When the semester started, I was worried I wasn't going to make it all the way through the semester still on paxil. So not only did I stretch out my days between drops, but I started dropping less. It hasn't made a huge, gaping difference, but I still wanted to be on the drug until AFTER my graduation day.

Now it appears if I continue on my path of longer cycles and littler drops, I won't be off until late June or early July. This is not acceptable to me. I lost my entire summer last year to horrible withdrawal from making huge drops (about 20 mgs in two months), and I need at least a year between my last dose of paxil and graduate school. Since I also have suffered quite horribly from poop-out, I'm starting to feel like many here have that I'm prolonging the pain by doing a slow and painful taper. And I'm also keeping this drug in my system, albeit at a very small dose. At one point, for a long time, I was on 60 mgs - I'm now cm's away from 2.

So I'm thinking - after graduation, I will make one last drop, give it three weeks to the end of May, and be done with it. This should be at around 1 mg.

What do you think? And, where did you stop? I asked that a while back, but got very few answers.

I think that's a good plan. The fear of making that final drop is a big one to overcome. But don't let that false sense of "security" stop you...go for it!

Sounds like a plan to me ! Take care of yourself and eat your fruits and veggies - maybe it wont be as bad as you think.

Have to agree with Laurie. Get to your 1 mg and let it go. I'll be at one mg next July and although that seems far away, it'll be here before you know it. Once I'm done with my three weeks of 1 mg, that's it for me!

I agree, go for it.

I stopped at 2.5mg. Yeah, the fear was there of going to zero but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I agree Terra. Go for it. I stopped at 2.5 mg. I don't think it will be as bad as you're expecting! You've weaned very slowly and carefully the last 7 or so months. Scotty's right -- dropping to zero can be scary but Paxil is nothing more than a false sense of security. You're a fighter and you've learned some great coping skills. You're going to do just fine!

Focus your attention on the here and now. Recognize it for what it is: the one moment of the only life you will ever have that you truly possess. Rare is the individual who has come to completely accept that the past is no more than a memory and the future an assumption about unborn events.
