2 Questions

My psychiatrist told me some things today and i want to find out if anyone here finds these to be true:

1. He said that if I start taking paxil again and I feel better with in a couple of days the the symptoms i was feeling was from withdrawal. If I don't feel better than what I'm feeling is not from withdrawal.

2. Shoot i can't remember my other question... I'll post when i remember.

Re: 2 Questions

That sounds about right. (not remembering that is- kidding)

All jokes aside, Your Doc gave good info. I can't say that it's 100% accurate, but I would be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Re: 2 Questions

Looking at your "weaning schedule" you essentially went cold turkey..thats your problem right there.

No don't go back on Paxil now..its been almost 3 months. Could you describe your withdrawal symptoms please

And are you doing anything health wise to help you out with this?
And are you off of stimulants , any caffeine/ alcohol
Do you take any benzo's . xanax, Klonopin, Ativan?

Regards, Johnny

Re: 2 Questions

I just read your Sig - You have been off Paxil for about 3 Months. Why would you even want to consider putting yourself through all that crap again.

You may be having a few lagging withdrawal symptoms, but I wouldn't do Paxil again. If you need something at all I wouldn't do Paxil. There are waaaaaayyyyyyyy to many other meds out there.

Re: 2 Questions

First of all i remember my 2nd question...

If i do try going back on paxil for a couple days and find that it doesn't help, he said that stopping right then won't do any harm. That a couple days on paxil won't set me back at all. Is that true.

My withdrawal symptoms are: severe severe anxiety and depression, can't eat, my head feels blotted, can't concentrate, panic attacks

I take magnesium, calcium, vitamin c, and fish oil and no caffeine or alcohol or anything else.

Revvv -
You say I should take another SSRI instead? I heard many people talk against that.

Well this one is a crap shoot. There is something called the "kindling effect" when you restart an SSRI. There's a sticky somewhere about it. You are rapidly approaching that timeframe when restarting an SSRI doesn't do a darn bit of good, if you haven't already passed it.

Focus your attention on the here and now. Recognize it for what it is: the one moment of the only life you will ever have that you truly possess. Rare is the individual who has come to completely accept that the past is no more than a memory and the future an assumption about unborn events.

I agree here..its very true the anxiety can be debilitating..I would strongly advise that you really think this over carefully..don't jump to the Paxil just to get free of the symptoms. A big thing here is that you "Cold Turkeyed"...this is a very dangerous and harmful thing to do when coming off an SSRI ,especially Paxil..you are now paying the price for this.

The call is yours..if you do go back, better to go back to 10mg for 2 months or so and then redo a proper taper..that means it really won't be till this time next year that you'll be Paxil Free and well on your way to recovery....so think about it..otherwise 3 months will have been lost of suffering for nothing.

Regards, Johnny

Re: 2 Questions

Yup, sometimes the 2nd time around it just doesn't work, so no, this is not a solid solution in my book.

To the 2nd question you have 3 scenarios.
1. It does absolutely nothing.
2. It backfires on you and you feel worse.
3. It does give you some relief.

2 out of 3 outcomes say, "Nah", to me. Also keep in mind that it takes 2 to 6 weeks for it to start working in the first place. Your decision.

Re: 2 Questions

Going back up in dose did nothing for me. It just didn't work the same anymore.

If withdrawal was a simple case of your body longing for drugs it came accustomed to this might be true. But the problem with this theory is that Paxil and other similar meds change the way your brain functions. When we talk about withdrawal here we are referring to the time it takes for the brain to heal. During my use of Paxil I made the mistake of going back on Paxil and it took a very long time to feel the effects. If I knew then what I know now, I would have never gone back on.

Re: 2 Questions

I had horrendous anxiety when I went c/t. It was very hard to get through and like you my mind was very cloudy, couldn't concentrate and I had little appetite, light headed. Anxiety does that. My pharmacist told me that you have anxiety any time you stop taking a drug like this one.

I did find that keeping myself moving helped. I love working out in the yard and did alot of that. A walk every day helped. I didn't sleep well but rested when I could even if it was just lying down for an hour or so. Have you tried Lucinda Bassett's book "from panic to power"? I HIGHLY recommend it!

I went c/t and found this board afterward. I was too afraid to go back on paxil so I gutted it out. Don't forget that anxiety leads to more anxiety, lack of sleep, more anxiety. Its a vicious cycle. If you can learn to relax and just accept it, it won't snowball.
