trouble sleeping

Seems like I have this yoyoing with sleeping, never knowing when insomnia will begin again. A few days not sleeping well, then falling asleep.

I cannot function on little sleep, and the only thing that helps are these sleeping pills dr. once prescribed. I'll take them as needed and i really don't want to get addicted to them. Even if it's 2x a week.. wondering if it is addictive.

Magnesium was helping me sleep, and was taking that at bedtime. But lately it hasn't made me sleepy. I was taking 200mg.. perhaps i can take 2 pills be4 bed? Do any of you take a larger amt. at bedtime and is that safe/alright to do?

These sleeping pills aren't so great if you take them for 5 hours of sleep. I think you must sleep 8 hours minimum...groggy next day.

Re: trouble sleeping

I'm taking Dr. Gilliam's Natural Calm. It's by far the best magnesium product I have tried. It comes in powder form and you spoon in 2 teaspoons at night and if you like-2 in the morning. It rocks. I definately notice when I forget to take it. Many of my co-workers take it and love it too. It flies off our shelves. You can double the dose to 400mg of the tablets you have -it will loosen the stools so be aware. If you need to call the 24 hour CVS to confirm please do. They actually have liquid magnesium citrate on their shelves for people who need it as a stool softener. Sorry for all the poop talk. Sweet dreams.

Re: trouble sleeping

hm. i have magnesium pills, but i don't take them before bed. i just bought some valerian root pills yesterday and they put me in a nice, relaxed state...i fell asleep about thirty minutes later. i also take warm baths w/ lavender oil sprinkled thorughout before bed (if i feel like i won't be able to get to sleep); that's probably my favourite one. smells nice ;D

Re: trouble sleeping

I don't know, I've tried the lavendar, I take the magnesium and while I'm "relaxed" and not anxious, I just am not getting quality sleep. Instead, I feel my brain "zapping" away as if it's trying to make a connection!

Re: trouble sleeping

Some here take melatonin. My friend and her son both take it to help them sleep and they say it works wonders! You might give it a try.
