Mood stabilizer
Hi guys. It's been awhile since I was here other than to cheer on my buddy Kerry for her new book. I Just tried to look up discussions on mood stabilizers but didn't get what I needed. Here's the story.....
So my friend's husband went to Dr because of depression and aniexty. The doctor said he wants to put him on a mood stabilizer (made it sound so nice) and....Dr says ...I wouldn't put you on a psch med, those are bad, bad for you. I looked up mood stabilizer all happy on google thinking hey whats this maybe my ex can use this?? Doesn't sound like a psch drug. Yes! SURE, SOUNDS like a psych med to me! Right? If not explain to me what it is. I see it's given for bi-polar disorder but Dr making it sounds less harmful. Thanks ![]()

He suffers from depression more now than ever, which was the reason for Dr putting him on it in the first place, plus for his anxiety. We remain in contact. He still has not pushed his life forward to be happy. (The history of ex and I is in my very first post...Will he remember he loves me? ) |

Re: Mood stabilizer
so we are not human if we have mood changes now ffs,are we supposed to walk round with a big cheesy grin all day and saying wow im in a good mood??? yep sounds ridiculous but so is all this bleeding rubbish about how we are supposed to be as humans, bloody hell if someone was in a good mood all day every day i would think they had lost it.And yep they dish out these sort of drugs covering the real information about what they actually are,i think the days are gone we can just sit back and trust doctors with our health, they are too influenced by big pharma these days.

Re: Mood stabilizer
Once the doc writes the prescrip, then you can throw at him any med stuff. The mood meds are horrific with side effects of tics etc.... seroquel, resperidal etc.
Will be interesting to see which 'none' psyc med he will be prescribing for mood LOL Quote:

Re: Mood stabilizer
The only non psych drug I know of that's used as a mood stabalizer is Lamictal. Its actually an anti-seizure drug that's used off label a LOT. And, its mostly used in bi-polar disorder OR in conjunction with Wellbutrin for those who have a history of seizures.
Yeah Jo, I agree with your assesment. I don't walk around with a cheesy grin on my face all the time......................that just wouldn't be natural.

Re: Mood stabilizer
sadly i remember Josh being given phenytoin at a young age for his epilepsy, then for 5 years his behaviour was up and down, after episodes of fits he would be a monster, now i look back and it was this behaviour that they gave him Lamictil for, they said it would work with the phenytoin and calm him down a bit,mmm then we actually found out it was rectal diazepam that made him throw things and punch and kick, once he stopped having that i had my loving son back,so had i known back then what i know of drugs now, maybe i would of picked things up and he would only be on the phenytoin.I didnt know Lamictil was a mood stabilizer untill now,so thanks for that Amays it all makes sense to me now just what they told me back then that was bull****,thank god i said no to the Ritalin they wanted to give him

Re: Mood stabilizer
"mood stabilizers" are off label uses for seizure drugs. Once again, no known action. Another stab in the dark!

Re: Mood stabilizer
But...is it considered a psch med, like Paxil? Have people had the same reactions from them like meds?
Sorry Laurie.
